...4 feet away on each side?

I have a 51" HDTV and am wondering if I should put my Athena AS-F2s directly on the side of my TV (almost touching it) or about 5 feet away from the TV on each side?

What would be better? Also, if I space them 4 feet away one speaker will be about 2-3 inches from a wall on its side, and about 1 foot away from a wall in the rear. Is that okay?

For proper imaging, the speakers should ideally be spaced apart about 1.5x the distance you are sitting from the TV. So if you are sitting about 8ft from the TV then the speakers should be about 12ft apart. Also, its proabably best to give at least 6 inches from the side walls.

Will it having it about 2-3 inches away from the side wall and slanted slightly inwards away from the wall effect the sound? I don't understand why placing a speaker close to a wall will affect it's sound even if it is slanted inwards!

The Athena AS-F2's are front ported so I think what you want to do would be ok. The Crutchfield site has an article about speaker placement that you might find helpful.

It will screw up the bass from that speaker by reenforcing it. Bass isn't directional so it doesn't matter how the speaker is pointed. Getting the speakers away from the walls will help control this problem.
