because speaker preferences are so subjective i thought instead of the "which is better" question i would pose a "what would you do question" instead.

Background:
Room Size - around 400 sq ft and open to the kitchen at the rear of the room (kitchen is another couple hundred sq ft)

you are looking at 5.1 systems

your receiver is a pioneer vsx-1015tx (you wont be buying a standalone amp at this time)

99% of the use will be tv/movies and 1% music

------------------------------------------------------------------------

the choices you have on the list at this time are:

Rocket RS850 Sig Series Mains (1400 free ship)
Rocket RSC200 Sig Series Center (450 free ship)
Rocket Rears (dont know yet, just something timber matched)
MFW-15 subwoofer (700)

or

Swan Diva 5.2 Mains (1049)
Swan Diva 5.2C Center (439)
Swan Rears (dont know yet, just something timber matched)
SVS or HSU subwoofer (dont know what model but under 800)

so what would you put in your home and why? any insights and opinions are greatly appreciated. thanks for taking the time all.

I've had the original Swan Diva's (available here for $1469 with R3 surrounds in black cherry vinyl or $1797 in rosewood veneer with free shipping) for 1 1/2 years and an quite happy with them. I also looked at the Rockets but thought they were a bit out of my price range. They do have the famous Vifa tweeter, though.

The thing I like about the original Swans is the 5.1 towers and C3 center use the same woofer and mid-range drivers. The new 5.2C doesn't use a mid-range.

So, what would I do? I'd get the original Swan's in BC vinyl and spend what I saved on the biggest SVS sub I could afford. An outstanding center channel and a huge SVS would make for a fantastic movie experience.

If music was a higher priority, I'd lean towards the Rockets and that Vifa tweeter. If I could afford them.

I'd go with these, which includes the SVS sub:
SVSound - Complete Systems
Good luck with whatever you get.
