For the Christmas period, I have taken a look at my ever-growing “DVDs To Watch” pile and decided to select a few choice titles which ought to make my seasonal viewing both pleasurable and varied.

    Sun05-JanTHE CHAPLIN MUTUALS VOL. 1: EASY STREET/THE CURE/THE IMMIGRANT/THE ADVENTURER (1916-17; Image Entertainment)

Actually, MICKEY MOUSE IN BLACK AND WHITE, THE FANTASTIC PLANET and CASTLE OF BLOOD have yet to reach me, and I hope they make it here in time.

Some of these discs have lain unwatched in my collection for quite some time - THE CHAPLIN MUTUALS VOL. 1, SNOW WHITE AND THE SEVEN DWARFS, DUMBO, THUNDERBALL and YOU ONLY LIVE TWICE – but since I’m not usually in the mood for the heavier stuff at this time of year, they seem ideal Christmas fare. In this light, the choice of WALKABOUT would seem out of place; however, I have only just received it and, given that four years have elapsed since my sole viewing of it, I don’t see why I have to wait any longer!

Apart from all this, I should also be checking out THE LORD OF THE RINGS: THE TWO TOWERS (2002) at the cinema. Anyway, what will you all be watching this Christmas?

There are 3 X-mas films that have become a tradition in my home. They are:

    1. "A Christmas Carol" 1938 M-G-M version on LD
"The Bishop's Wife" Cary Grant version on DVD
"Miracle on 34th Street" 1947 version on DVD[/list=1]

Hmmm, now you got me thinking. I might pick up the grinch, I know it's not the best of x-mas discs but it's not too bad.

Probably Star Wars: Episode II and Tarkovsky's Solaris. I felt it would perhaps be an interesting idea to watch sequentially 2 films representing the complete opposite sides of the sci-fi spectrum.

Charlie Brown's Christmas, The Grinch that Stole Chirstmas, cartoon, Emmet Otter's Jug Band Christmas, and Auntie Mame. Auntie Mame only has one Christmas scene, but has always been one of my favorite movies showing what family is all about.

Some of the few VHS's that still get use around my (and my parents') place (some aren't available on DVD, and it's tough to justify upgrading stuff I know I'll only watch once a year):

"Opus & Bill In 'A Wish For Wings That Work'"
    "Christmas Eve On Sesame Street"
    "The Muppet Christmas Carol"

I Have to go out and find a copy of the 38 or 51 versions of Christmas carol, if not I'll fall back on the Patrick Stewart version I have. I'm also gonna try to catch one airing of Christmas Story on TNT since they are having intermission reminiscing from the original cast
