Does anyone have any idea? I thought of one yesterday, while talking with a co-worker. How about the best film moments. Here's a few examples.

1. King Kong swatting at planes at the top of the Empire State Building.

2. Harold Lloyd hanging from the clock in Safety Last.

3. Bogie listening to Sam play the Piano in Casablanca

4. The Vertigo effect in Vertigo.

etc.. I think that they could probably work in a few movies that wouldn't necessarily make great movie countdowns, but have great moments or scenes instead.

Me and a friend had the same conversation last week. We came up with 100 Best Scenes which is essentially the same as your idea.

When Dorothy opens the door from her house and steps out into Munchkinland in all it's Technicolor glory.
The whole lab sequence from Frankenstein.
Dracula coming down the steps with the huge spider web behind him.

I'm hoping they do countdowns of the 100 greatest movies of every decade...

My idea for the first? AFI's 100 Totally Awesome: The Best Movies Of The 1980s.

This idea has potential...I even have an idea for the opening montage.

I say: Gather clips from American 80s movies of all genres, let Chuck Workman have at it, and set the end result to any of the following songs:

-"Into The Groove" from "Desperately Seeking Susan"
-"Oh Yeah" from "Ferris Bueller's Day Off"
-The "End Credits" music from "The Untouchables"
-The theme from "Back To The Future"
-The "E.T" theme
-"I Can Dream About You" from "Streets Of Fire"
-"Baby I'm A Star" from "Purple Rain"
-The title track from "Fame"
-"Flashdance...What A Feeling" from "Flashdance"
-"I've Had The Time Of My Life" from "Dirty Dancing"

What do you think?

Sincerely,

John "It all has to start somewhere" Kilduff

They'll probably make a list of the best "money shots" in a porn film. :rolleyes:Seriously, these AFI lists are basically only created for prime television exposure. They're kind of phony. Each time I hear of a new AFI list, the term "Hallmark Holiday" comes to mind....another creation of big business.

You couldn't be more accurate, but I think you're missing the point. These lists exist to help expose the masses to classic films that they otherwise would never watch. In that respect, I think they do a great job and I will continue to support them. Do I think that these list are absolutely accurate and a true representation of the greatest films? NO!!!

I love the other scenes that you guys have mentioned. Especially the Oz, Frankenstein, & Empire scenes.

Let me add a few more.

1. The shower scene in Psycho

2. H.A.L. taking over the ship in 2001

3. Mitchum explaining his knuckles in "Night of the Hunter"

4. The opening camera shots in "Touch of Evil"

5. The ending of Rocky (Adrian!!)
