Hello all. We all know that Jurassic Park was the first film and the first laserdisc to be in DTS. However, what was the first DVD to be in DTS? Now this doesn't include demo discs or anything, I'm curious to know of an actual film that was first on DVD to have the privelage of being in DTS?

Cheers,

The first DTS DVD release was the animated made for video film The Legend of Mulan in November 1998.

In early (January to March) 1999 Universal and Image Entertainment released Dances with Wolves, Dante's Peak, Waterworld, The Shadow, Liar Liar, Babe, Daylight and Apollo 13

The Legend of Mulan. And what a gawd-awful title to hold the honor.

I assume we're not talking about the Disney flick with the cross-dressing swordswoman and Eddie Murphy as the hilarious sidekick Donkey, er, I mean, Mushu? Or are we?

This was "Legend of Mulan" from DVD Ltd., which is also affiliated with the porn label NuTech Digital which put out a few porn DVDs with DTS :) This disc IS horrible- the DTS soundtrack is slightly impressive but nothing to write home about, the animation and dialogue is really bad. It looks like it was made on an Apple II computer! And yes, I actually bought this when there weren't many titles out there with DTS; I almost felt obligated to given my Pioneer player had to be modified to output the DTS signal!

I found the sound on "Sensual Experience" and "Coming to Beverly Hills" disappointing; the surround is used mostly for the music- Sensual Experience has a wannabe George Winston style piano score.
"Pandora Peaks: A Peek of Pandora" also has the soundtrack mostly dominated by music, but I liked the music in this one better than the other two.
If I produced these I would've found some creative uses for the subwoofer channel, but oh well ;)

I always thought the first one was Dances With Wolves, cause at the Consumer Electronics Show in Vegas they made a big deal out of it, selling it for half price and giving you a movie book and cd soundtrack with it. Oh well.
