this weekend, some idiot got a few drops of beer or soda or something on one of my paradigms. now there are a couple little sticky spots on the speaker wood. is there anything in particular i should or shouldn't use to clean it off? would any kind of furniture polish work?

if it is real wood I would treat it like furniture. use Pledge or another furniture cleaner. If it has a poly coating you could probably just use a damp cloth. If you aren't sure use furniture cleaner.

I use furniture oil on my wood finish speakers...always makes them look like brand spankin' new...plus there's that wonderful shine factor!!
