I'm taking my girlfriend away this weekend, to Biloxi, Mississippi for her birthday. Pat Benetar, one of her favorite singers, is performing at the Beau Rivage so I snagged a couple of tickets.

I was just wondering what other interesting things we could do while we're in Biloxi. I've been several times so I have a general idea. I know there's several mini-golf courses and a couple of water parks around, right? Not to mention the beach and lots of souvenir shops. The concert is Friday evening, and we're staying until Sunday, so we still have much of the day Friday and all of Saturday to fill.

She'll be 21 on the 16th but unfortunately Pat's there only on the 8th so her age limits us somewhat.

    Thanks for any suggestions.

Is there anything to do in Biloxi other than gamble and drink? I was there in 2000 (and stayed at the Beau Rivage - nice place) and it looked like a very small town to me. Other than casinos, there wasn't much there.

Well, two years ago there were some really nice people at the Waffle House near the convention center! [IMG] See if a girl named Svea is still there (pronounced Suh-Vay-Uh).

The only thing I ever did in Biloxi was go to tech school at Keesler AFB. But I very much doubt that your girlfriend would enjoy that experience.[IMG]

Sorry I can't offer anything better than that.

Unless you are going to gamble and drink then I have no clue.

Steve summed it up best. Gamble and/or Drink. [IMG]

Possibly: Drive to New Orleans or Pensacola, FL ?

    Bill,

I also was at Keesler for Tech School (2 different times). I'm a Weather Forecaster. Now stationed at McChord AFB in Washington State, but currently deployed to Germany. [IMG]

I'll be there the weekend after next, and mainly for the gambling.

I think Cirque du Soleil had a travelling show go through Biloxi, but checking their website they have since long gone. In fact, I think they actually went to the Beau Rivage place too.

You can go there, find an internet cafe and check up on the HTF!

There is nothing to do in Biloxi other than drink, gamble, or eat at the Waffle House. I went to tech school at Keesler as well (for Satellite Communications Maint. - 7 months worth...at least I wasn't in Ground Radio, that was 9 months) and there wasn't much to do.
Which reminds me. That mall they have there on the coast...I think it was called the Gulf Coast Mall. I was there in 1996-1997 and you could smoke IN the mall. Like walking around and everything. The only places you couldn't smoke was in the stores. I've quit smoking since then, but just curious if you can still do that.

    Michael,
I was there for Air Defense RADAR training, and concidentally was also stationed at McChord. But this was way back in '81-'84.

Oops..I didn't realize New Orleans was Carl's home of record [IMG]

Nevertheless, that's all I did while I was there (Drive somewhere else!)...somebody else always had to drive me back though, if you catch my drift :p) Especially coming back from New Orleans.

    Other thoughts:

There is a HOOTER'S restaurant right on the beach now, that has been there just a year or two now maybe.

The Beau Rivage is beautiful. The Buffet there is very good.

There is a couple Putt-Putt courses along the beach. One with Batting Cages also.

The Mississippi Gulf Coast Coliseum - Maybe there is something going on there that might interest you guys?

There is an outlet mall near there (Gulfport Outlet Mall)

Like noted previously, the Beaches are MUCH better the further east you go from Biloxi (towards Florida). Pensacola was the furthest place West that I would even come close to getting in the water. I'm very picky [IMG]

Have fun! I suggest gamble the time away. Free Drinks [IMG]

Carl, I was talking to a friend of mine from MS, and asked her if she had any suggestions for your trip. Here's what she said via chat:

If the best suggestions that a "local" can come up with are going out to eat at a chain restaurant like the Olive Garden or going to see a movie (things you can do anywhere), then I think it's safe to say that there is NOTHING to do in Biloxi other than drinking and gambling. Not that there's anything wrong with that!

One of the best meals I've ever had in my life I got in Biloxi at the famous "Mary Mahoney's" restaurant. Kinda pricey, but a neat place with some history. It was also a setting in one of John Grisham's novels...forget which one, Runaway Jury maybe?

I can't believe one of the locals hasn't mentioned Mary Mahoneys!
