Ok after saying I wouldn't get into digital streaming here I am with a 4K Apple TV! And yes I have purchased content so I have done a 180 and added digital content to add to my movie experience and collection. What classics would anyone who owns an 4K Apple TV suggest? Doesn't need to be in surround but must be a good clean transfer that looks very good on Apple TV.

That’s a tough one to answer.

    What do you like?
Pick your favorite movies and check to see if iTunes has them.

    If you like classic sci-fi...

iTunes has the 1953 version of War Of The Worlds in 4K. On physical media that’s only available on DVD, not even Blu-ray, so it’s a major upgrade.

There’s a bunch of cool stuff on iTunes in either HD or 4K, where the only disc versions were on DVD. Those are the things I tend to buy.

A nearly impossible question to answer as your film tastes would dictate what you want.

For the most part all iTunes transfers are “clean” so when you see a title that you like on sale buy it. Simple as that.

Yeah Dave, we need a little more information about your personal taste in movies before we can offer you any recommendations.

Get the Cheap Charts app and look for films that interest you at bargain prices. Have a price ceiling in mind for what you are willing to pay for 4K or HDX versions, and wait for titles to drop below that ceiling. Most titles will eventually be on sale, so there is no need to pay full price.

I can tell you I've gotten HD upgrades for many of my favorite DVDs that will likely never be issued on Blu-ray (especially if Paramount has anything to do with them). I think the classic movie that looks the best on my system is Till the Clouds Roll By with its astonishing Technicolor imagery and so many great songs performed by the great stars of the era that it's mind boggling.

I would recommend using the CheapCharts website instead, as that includes Vudu and Amazon prices as well, most of which can transfer to iTunes.

The app for Android devices has those stores, too, but doesn't show sale prices for TV shows on any storefront. The website shows TV shows for iTunes and Amazon, but not Vudu. The Apple app shows everything, but just for iTunes. The website doesn't seem to have a date listed for the sale entries, which both the Apple and Android apps have.

It would be nice if CheapCharts worked the same across all their platforms.

My tastes used to be very narrow when I was younger but I have branched out since then. I enjoy just about all kinds of movies as long as it has a good storyline to them.

    Action Adventure
    Sci-Fi
    Western
    Drama
    Comedy
    Horror

My collection currently has movies from all above including:
    My Fair Lady
    Sound Of Music
    Next Stop Greenwich Village
    The Innocents
    Seven Year Itch
    Singin In The Rain
    Lawrence Of Arabia
    White Christmas
    Don't Bother To Knock
The Day The Earth Stood Still

    to

    Back To The Future
    Alien Movies
    Bourne Identity
    Star Wars
    Harry Potter Movies
    Gran Torino
    Memoirs Of A Geisha
    Saving Private Ryan
    Jet Li's Fearless
    The Post
    James Bond
Original Battlestar Galactica and new Battlestar Galactica
Star Trek original series and anything Star Trek
    The Book Thief

Will check out Till the Clouds Roll By. I am also looking to get into more than just the top uber popular titles!

Thank you for the recommendation, this was just purchased and added to my iTunes. Will try and add as many as I can considering my upgrades and 4K titles I want on disc. I have already planned on watching Lone Survivor but will try and get to this title soon.

    iTunes 5_15_19b.

As suggested before, use CheapCharts to see what's on sale that interests you and pick up those titles when their prices are low. I have set personal ceiling prices of $10 for a 4K film and $5 for an HDX film and stick to that. I also have been avoiding buying HDX titles I already own on BD. My purchases have been a combination of upgrades of titles I own on disc in lesser quality to 4K, upgrades of some titles I own on SD-DVD to HDX (or 4K), and new titles that I may not have made a blind purchase of on disc prices but will take a chance on at $5, which isn't much more than a rental price.

Some recent 4K titles I picked up for $5 include American Hustle, Backdraft, Die Hard 3, Die Hard 4, Cliffhanger, Edward Scissorhands, The Kingsman films, Jurassic Park, Sicario 2, Office Space, Superman 2, and Hotel Artemis. The 5 Jack Ryan films cost me $30 ($6 per film), and the 4 Hunger Games films were $20. I spent $10 on Bohemian Rhapsody because both my wife and I really wanted to see it, but that's the only recent 4K purchase that was near my ceiling price.

Patience will make your money go a lot further.

While I am going to be buying titles I can see myself getting back into buying more discs especially after investing in a new Panasonic UB9000 4K UHD Blu-ray Player.

Isn’t the answer the same regardless of format: a good movie is a good movie regardless of whether it’s on your Blu-Ray player or your AppleTV.

Or...I don’t think there are movies specifically mastered for AppleTV that should be exclusively be bought in that format.

Not a big Digital person, but sometimes an incredible deal does come along

Cheers the Complete Series $19.99 -- weird since hte individual seasons are 19.99ea so I wondered if there was a glitch in their system except it's specifically listed on their Deals Banner

iTunes has lately had some good TV deals that only ran for brief periods - complete series of 24, West Wing, original Twilight Zone were all under $30 within past couple months. I regret not jumping on those. 24 is mostly standard definition on disc, WW is all SD on disc, the iTunes was HD though.

I jumped on that TZ deal.

Would do the same for Deadwood. Maybe with the movie premiering on HBO May 31, there will be a sale.

I grabbed the Twilight Zone deal, too, along with Cheers.
