Lets compile a list of recievers that have an internal cooling fan. I think the NADs do. Anybody know for sure?

My Yamaha RXV-992 and the RXV-995 have cooling fans, although it seems they aren't for the internal amps, but for the circuitry.

Only once or twice have I seen them working.

The Onkyo 797, 898, Integra 7.2, 8.2 have internal fans. They're cleverly hidden and make no noise. The Denon 3802, 4802, and 5803 also have.

The Rotel RSX-1065 has two fans. I've never heard them working.

Onkyo TXDS-656. Kicks on by signal being processed and the demand it places on the amps. It is not thermally switched.

Nakamichi AV-10. Not a current model, but worthy of a mention just the same.

Would you hear the 3802's fan if it started?

The Panasonic SA-HE200 has a fan. I've never heard it working at all though, very quiet.

Most amps use heat sinks to dissipate the wasted energy.
