Wife and I were looking through the collection last night trying to find a good action/adventure movie to watch. Couldn't find anything we wanted to see, so I decided it's time to add some to the collection. I would love to hear what YOUR favorites are in these genres.

Ben, center the discussion around the DVDs of movies and your thread can stay here in the Software section. Otherwise, it really seems to belong in the Movies area.

Indy Jones DVD trilogy is a must have of course. But you should be more specific as there are alot of different sub-genres within the action genre. If you like modern action, I'd recommend the Bourne movies, or if you like classics, The Treasure of the Sierra Madre is great.

Kain- Well, I didn't want to be too specific as I was hoping I might get suggestions I hadn't thought of. But I suppose I'm looking more for modern (last 20 years) movies. By the way, the Indy collection is one of my favorite recent additions.

I thought I would go ahead and list some of my all time favorites that I already have:

Fifth Element
Kill Bill
Rundown
House of Flying Daggers
Last Samurai
Once Upon a Time In Mexico
LOTR Trilogy

I know some of these crossover into other genres, but still are great action movies.

I forgot about Long Kiss Goodnight. A highly unerrated movie! I am adding it to my list. You guys are giving me some great ideas. You've listed a lot of movies I've never heard of too, which is exactly what I was hoping.

Besides the usual, two movies came to mind that might be overlooked:

Payback with Mel Gibson. The movie seemed to always propell forward with no lulls. I just loved the main character's attitude of just getting what he wants no matter the odds or with whom he was dealing.

Drive (1997) with Mark Dacascos, Kadeem Hardison, and a drugged out Brittany Murphy channelling Anna Nicole Smith (you'll understand when you see her performance.:D ) This may be a B-movie but it has some of the best fights I've ever seen on film. Each fight in the movie is better than the one before it.

Both of these films have rewatch-ability in my book.

I'd recommend these:

The Seven Samurai - Considered by fans to be the 1st big-budget action film in the sense that it brought together components of several genres: romance, adventure, war, etc.

Wages of Fear (1953) - One of the most [rant]INTENSELY[/rant] nervewracking films I've ever seen! Avoid the 70s remake, Sorceror.

Ronin - Some of the best car chases ever filmed.

Um, I'm pretty sure that there was only one Matrix movie. The others are a myth. And there was only one Highlander movie too. Yup, pretty sure. Never happened. Pretty sure. Never happened. Pretty...
