Paramount: Samson and Delilah Sunset Boulevard The African Queen Sabrina Roman Holiday The High and the Mighty White Christmas To Catch a Thief The Ten Commandments Funny Face Breakfast at Tiffany's El Dorado True Grit Peanuts feature films Chinatown Saturday Night Fever Grease (and would it KILL them to include the original soundtrack and logos?) Airplane! Terms of Endearment Beverly Hills Cop Top Secret! Naked Gun trilogy
Universal: Scarface '32 Dracula Frankenstein The Bank Dick Double Indemnity The Lost Weekend Alfred Hitchcock films Pillow Talk Spartacus (if they can't do a good transfer, let Criterion have it) Flower Drum Song Charade Arabesque Thoroughly Modern Millie Sweet Charity (uncut) Duel The Sting Jaws The Jerk E.T. (original unmolested version) The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas Dead Men Don't Wear Plaid Monty Python's the Meaning of Life Fletch Out of Africa Back to the Future trilogy (it looked fantastic on HDNet Movies, imagine what the Blu-Rays would look like) Schindler's List
Of the ones that we'll probably be seeing quickly, I'd like to see them put Transformers out correctly, IE with a lossless PCM track. When I see my huge robots fighting, I want to hear some destruction in high-res!
Of the stuff thats already out on HD DVD...Add me for the Bourne films, i would also like to see Dune, The Frightners, and Tremors on Blu from Universal. From Paramount, not much, just some Trek movies and TOS on Blu.
Uni: Spielberg's Universal titles, esp Jaws, Schindler's List and Jurassic Park. The Andromeda Strain Apollo 13 Battlestar Galactica - season sets The Bourne Trilogy Heroes - Season sets King King '05 Serenity
Paramount: Apocalypse Now Braveheart Chinatown The Godfather I & II The Hunt for Red October Star Trek II, VI and First Contact The Untouchables
Dreamworks: Saving Private Ryan Galaxy Quest Gladiator Minority Report
It seems that the "older" Blu-ray-titles from Paramount are slowly coming back to the stores: Advertisement
"..Amazon.com is offering some of Par's late 2006/early 2007 Blu releases like Mission Impossible II and III, Babel, The Italian Job, among others, which streeted prior to the studio's mid-2007 switch to HD DVD-only. A number of them pop up if you search Paramount Blu-ray on the site."
Titles like "Blades of Glory" is still unconfirmed. E-bay leeches, your days are numbered!
I would also like to see I Love Lucy in Blu-Ray in 4x3 1080p with an option to reconstruct the original broadcasts including original openings and commercials. No, they won't get me to start smoking; my dad is a radiation oncologist so I know the risks from someone who knows.
If you have a HD DVD player or are planning to get one on fire sale this is a good plan. I think the Bourne movies, Children of Men, American Gangster and other theatrical releases on HD DVD will probably be made available sooner rather than later (12 months). I don't expect many of their catalog HD DVDs to make to Blu-ray for 2-3 years at the earliest. I know WB has said that they will release all their HD DVD exclusive discs onto BD too, but only 5 of them sold over 10K copies, so I would expect the big titles (Matrix, Batman, etc) sooner (12 months), but some of the others may take a while too.
I really want to see Sweeney Todd, I would have made it a blind buy now that it's out, but I feel really silly buying it in SD now that I know it's not HD DVD exclusive... especially since I just bought the darned BD player.
To answer the orginal question in a nebulous, general sort of way...
As long as there's quality to the release, I'll be there. I'd almost definitely grab anything Trek-related (even Enterprise). I'd like to grab Children of Men and Jarhead and the Bourne movies...that's just among the things which are currently out and coming to mind right now.
