I just recently bought the Sony DVP-CX875P mega dvd/cd changer. On the options menu for screen type what should i put it to, 4:3, 4:3 pan scan, or 16:9. My televsion is a Sony Wega 36" flat screen with auto enhanced 16:9 (KV-36FV300). But, when i put the dvd player on 16:9, i still have the huge black bars on the top and bottom, is this right?

Yes, it's right. 16:9 mode just improves vertical resolution on 16:9 discs. It doesn't affect the size of the black bars, which are solely due to the mismatch between the aspect ratio of your set (4:3 = 1.33:1) vs. the movies themselves (mostly 1.85:1 or 2.35:1). The only way you can reduce the size of the black bars, without cropping or distorting the picture, is to get a widescreen set (16:9 = 1.78:1). It would more closely match the movie ratios, hence use smaller bars. On most 1.85:1 films they wouldn't even show up because of overscan, or because the transfer itself was opened up a bit to 1.78:1.
