Simply put, where can I get good reviews, comparisons and education on HDTVs? What are recommended websites or magazines (preferably those online or commonly available at local bookstores)?

I want to be educated and prepared to buy on short notice if holiday sales on TVs are especially good.

Is Consumer Reports' reviews of HDTVs considered to of good quality? I subscribe, but I'm wary of their reviews on display-related technologies, be it printers, cameras, or TVs. They've shown some ineptitude in this area in the past and I don't know how much they know about reviewing HDTV performance.

The information here and AVS is helpful, but I find forums an inefficient way to find straightforward comparisons and rankings on TVs.

Widescreen Review gives very detailed and technical reviews but you almost need a degree in engineering to understand what they're saying. Secrets Of HiFi is always a good place to look. Home Theater Magazine used to do "shoot outs" where they would compare three simular items. Those should keep you busy for a while.

I just found this one. Might be helpfull but I know nothing about it. Looks like it's mostly for Plasma's.

Widescreen Review

Some reviews may be somewhat technical for the average consumer, but you can be assured you will receive an objective, thorough review. The fact that they calibrate the display during the evaluation and report on it, gives you a more complete, and accurate, review for that product.
