    I have five direct radiating speakers positioned like this:

    [spkr] [spkr] [spkr]

    [spkr]->[ seat ]

    Geoff, if your just adding one speaker you might want to think about adding a dipole to get a more diffuse sound coming from the back.

    However, I have heard of people using a center channel speaker in the back when there is only one speaker for the rear. Ultimately, testing all the configurations in your setup would be best.

    Direct radiating. Matched to the rest of your speakers.

    I don't know if I'd recommend a center channel speaker, though.

    I've got a center speaker for my rear identical to my front one and I think it sounds great.

    I found that for me, this depends on how close to your seating positions the rear center speakers are. If less than 4 feet or so, I found the direct radiators to be too localized and a dipole(s) worked best for me. If I move those center rear speaker locations back to say 8-10 feet, then direct radiators or even a center channel sounded great.

    How tall should I put the surround back? Same height as the L/R surrounds?
