The house I bought last year had a semi-done entertainment room completed and I noticed after we moved in, this odd 3-prong outlet.

Standard outlets are this: [] []
0

but this one is like this: __ __

0

Baisically the slits are 9 'o' clock to 3 o clock. Never seen this before.

any suggestions???

So instead of the slits going up and down they are side to side?

That is a 220 volt outlet. Maybe they thought they needed a lot of power.

I guess I should state that it's in the entertainment room. What would require that much power? I'm thinking that the room may have been part of the kitchen once and they seperated it to make this room and left the outlet there just because. Thanks though.

If it was part of the kitchen then it is a range outlet, probably 50 amp. Do you have any 50 amp breakers in your panel box? If you do that is the outlet.

First since this is an internation website what country are you in? USA?

If USA then yes it's a 220 outlet. Get an electrician out there and he can easily change that to a standard 110 outlet.:)
