For anyone interested in determining their true BMI, you can get it measured at most health clubs & doctor's offices. It is basically an equation based off your current weight & various caliper measurements at different body locations.
BMI calculators crack me up. As others have pointed out, they're about as accurate as Ty Detmer. My BMI is 28.1 which places me as borderline obese. Obese? I don't even rate as chubby. I'm a gaunt 6' 4" and I don't even workout regularly so I don't think a whole lot of my 230 lbs is muscle mass. I don't know where the weight comes from but fat it isn't. According to this finely tuned health instrument I should weigh around 152 lbs. 6' 4" and 150??? That wouldn't be a pretty sight.
According to the calc, mine is 29...better go on a diet.
Not exactly *ideal* I guess, but it works for me.
32.7!! Wow, what a crock of shit. I'm a total lard ass according to that equation. 6'5" and 275lbs. Funny thing is the only fat I have on my entire body is that damned Goodyear around my waste. Damn thing never seems to go flat either.

BMI is the standard unit of measure for determining obesity. Like almost any other medical or scientific measurement, it has its flaws. It is a general rule of thumb. A physician can help determine the reliability of your BMI with a physical examination.
However, the BMI index is a great rule of thumb for most cases. It is NOT meaningless. Percent body fat is a better indication of obesity. However, it is much more difficult to measure. BMI gives a quick look at where you are at. Again, most scientific measurements are increasingly less accurate at the extremes.
Also, there is no better way of calculating your BMI. The eqaution on that site is the proper equation for determining BMI. Your health club or phyisician will use the same measurements to calculate a BMI.
My BMI is 26.0 BTW.
30.4 This isnt accurate as the only fat on my body as a little around my waste. People tell me I dont look like I weigh 225-230lbs, but muscle weighs more than fat.

The funny thing is, a couple of years ago when I was working out regularly, I weighed a good 10 lbs. more than I do now, with much less fat. Of course adding 10 lbs. puts me in the overweight category...
