Now that I am finally vested in 4k, my plan is not to replace all my Blu-ray titles. However, there are some absolute favorites that I hope will make its way to the format in the short-term.

I will list my short-term wishes in the first response to this thread.

Would love to know your most wanted 4k releases!

Please be realistic. The format is still young. Deep catalog titles will not be of main concern to the studios. They will look to put out popular mainstream releases for the moment. So, again, please be realistic in your responses.

These are titles you probably already own on Blu-ray but would gladly buy again on 4k

With the studios reading forum threads perhaps this will help them help us.

My list is short....for the moment. These would be my three picks

Glory (Sony)
Saturday Night Fever (Paramount)
Star Wars Trilogy (Disney/Fox) (Not the god-awful prequels)

I tried to pick films with great colors and outdoor scenes while having a realistic chance of being released on 4K/UHD.

Lawrence of Arabia
The Searchers
The Professionals
Original Star Wars Trilogy
Close Encounters of the Third Kind Rio Bravo
The Wizard of Oz

Edit:
The Lord of the Rings films
Ben-Hur (1959)
The Wild Bunch

Close Encounters is available now. It was released last year. And it looks and sounds tremendous.

For me, popular films that were not quite right when brought to Blu-ray but now have a chance by the studios of rectifying their mistakes on UHD:

The Sound of Music
The Searchers
Rio Bravo
Chinatown
What was wrong with The Sound of Music BD?

FTR: I don't think 4k is going to help Return of the Jedi that much. JDC Scope's deficiencies are entirely on process level.

Hello, Dolly!
The Music Man
Paint Your Wagon
Oklahoma
The Sound of Music
The Majestic
Back to the Future Trilogy

I’m sure I’ll think of others. Basically, any film that is highly rewatchable. Musicals are always high on that list.

Generally speaking, I don't do 4K -- because I am the only one who would care about the difference in quality, I don't think it is likely enough that my family will upgrade to justify the immediate additional expense of future-proofing -- but I've got to say that the rumors of The Lion King coming to 4K in December are slightly annoying because I just double dipped on that title last year.

Because of Disney's "vaulting" policy, I would consider future-proofing for one of their classic titles more than I would for almost anything else, and The Lion King is my #2 favorite film of all time (just beneath Aladdin.) It is certainly one where, had the 4K been available last year at the time that I double dipped on the Blu-ray anyway, I probably would have gone for a 4K+standard Blu version instead of the Blu-ray+DVD I got. But I'm not sure if I will want to spend a huge deal of money to buy it on 4K again now considering how recently I purchased the new Blu. I'm not upset that 4K fans will get to have it, but I saw it and thought, "They couldn't have done that last year instead?!"

That being said: if Disney were to offer a 4K edition of Aladdin the next time it comes out of the vault, I would probably pay extra to get that in 4K rather than just the Blu-ray double dip. There is a very small list of films I care enough about being able to get to future-proof very far in advance, and those two titles are the very top of it.
