I can't hold this any more, it's been 2 years since I've been involved with home theater stuff and I still don't fully understand THX.

WHAT IS THX?? What does it DO? How does it make the sound and video better etc.

Please answer whatever you can, THX!

THX is just a standard that George Lucas and his buddies developed, it is a standard that will give THX movie the opportunity to play a optimal performance. Also it's a way to sell more products...as to say that many consumers will think that THX is better then not having it but that is not always true. THX maybe good to have but it isn't another format or type of processing but just a standard that the movie folk set out. Many high end audio products do not hold the THX name does that mean that the product is no good compared to a receiver that has it? It's just a matter of opinion and taste i would say. I've gone about this a little long, i'm probably wrong so you guys tell me...this is how i've always interpreted THX...it's that cool intro on dvds! it makes you go "WOW"...

Like so many subjects, this one is covered in detail in the HTF Primer and FAQ. Try the section entitled:

THX - is this an audio format?

I just read a little bit about THX amplifier specs that I found interesting. It was on Home Theater Magazine's website in their Home Theater Boot Camp articles. Here's an excerpt that relates the sort of specs THX looks for:
