There is a movie I’m trying to find the title for and I’m hoping that one of you will know the one I’m about to describe.

It is *not* Event Horizon. I only mention this now because that is the one people keep mentioning after my description and I know for a fact that isn’t the movie.

I believe the movie was filmed sometime in the 1980s and is a science fiction movie.

The plot, as I remember it, is that there is some kind of space Bermuda Triangle where ships keep vanishing. Yet another ship enters (I’m not sure if it was a research ship, rescue, passenger liner, whatever) and starts encountering problems. People start to die and somewhere along the way they learn that there is some malevolent entity behind the disappearances.

The end of the movie goes something like this. The surviving crew members (I think there is only one at this point) decide that the way to end the problem and protect other ships is to destroy THEIR ship, which is where they believe the entity is trapped.

Their ship explodes and then at some point, I think once the debris clears or something, you hear the entity laughing and the only thing on the screen is space. So basically, the good guys lose.

Anyone have any idea what movie this is?

Sounds like it could be Nightflyers, but I haven't seen that one since it ran in theaters.

I have no idea what this film is but thanks for ruining the ending! [IMG]

This does sound familiar though, I think I saw this as a kid.

I also remember seeing this from your description, but I can't really place it or think of a name at this point.

Great, now I'm trapped in your hell with you (ironically rather like the plot of the film itself [IMG] ).

It's not 'Galaxy of Terror' by any chance? Where the crew members die by being attacked by their worst fears come to life? Only thing I can think of that vaguely fits the description. **consulting Sci-Fi movie guides in frustration**

sounds like a combination of Alien, Black Hole and Event Horizon.

    perhaps it was a TV-movie?

WOW! I haven't thought about that one in years...

The only two scenes I remember: an actress goes through a short gymnastic workout; a headless body attacks another crewmember with a knife. The ship's computer housed the spirit of a woman, too, I believe. Any of that ring a bell, Tim?

Damn you, Scott! Now I feel the need to refresh my memory...[IMG]

    Andy,

I also remember a scene where there's some massive vacuum-vortex thing goin' on in the ship and it sucks one of the female crewmembers right out into space.

Sounds like The Dark Side Of The Moon. 1988 or '89 I think. Direct to video from Vidmark?

Did it end with a shot of a moon-based junkyard with a millenium's worth of missing ships and naval vessals?

Part of the premise was that the Bermuda Triangle was connected to sister coordinates located on the dark side of the moon. Any ships passing between these two points, on earth or in space, encountered strange phenomena or completely vanished. It was between these two points that the "devil" or some kind of manifestation of evil was trapped and would try and use ships passing through to escape or generally cause big trouble by possessing people at will.

It's been awhile, so I may be a little off.

Galaxy of Terror...Hmm...I think was VERY young when that was out. Caught it on HBO or something when my parents were out. The only thing I THINK I remember about it is some object stuck in a guy's wrist and broke off. You could see it working its way upwards under his skin. He ended up cutting his arm off or something.

Obviously made SOME kind of impression on me...that was like 20 years ago.

    Am I close? Anyone?

Michael Crichton did write Spehere about 10 years before Event Horizon came out in the theaters, so you have to give the guy some credit.

The story was good; the film was not.[IMG] Just a comparison, not saying he was ripping off EH.

Based on comments here I went and picked up a copy of Night Flyers and that definitely wasn't the movie. Not the greatest film ever, but considering the time it was made I guess it was pretty good for it's day.

: Did it end with a shot of a moon-based junkyard with a

    That sounds very familiar.

Dark Side of the Moon sounds exactly like the film I'm thinking about. When I dig up a copy I'll post here and let you know if that was it or not.

I watched Dark Side of the Moon last night and that was the movie I was thinking about.

Pretty lame acting, and the plot had a ton of holes in it but a decent spooky sci-fi movie.

I especially liked how the 10 foot long boarding tube connecting the two ships seemed to have an unlimited quantity of air to be blown into space (the doors on both ships were closed so all this air came from where? )

    Wonderful movie. =)
