I am about ready to make a 1080p purchase. Could some of you guys please help me out? What is the difference from a 1080p rear projection to a 1080p lcd or plasma. What i am looking at is the picture quality. How much clearer is there a difference? I am looking for a 65" and I can get a rear projection for under $2000. When the lcd and plasma are Under $5000. Is there a $3000 picture difference? Thanks

greetings

DLP RP ...

smoother ... some might say more film like
Cheaper ...
capable of more accurate colors than lcd or plasma (depends on what you buy)
will have overscan so a bit of the sides will be missing
no burn in damage worries

LCD/Plasma

burn in worries on plasma
lcd good for foom with lots of ambient light
no overscan if desired
some motion issues on lcd ... although not on plasma.
takes up less space ... but if you put it on a table the table takes up the same space with all TVs so no space saved at all.

LCd worst viewing angles of all three TVs.
Plasma ... Best.

DLP is in the middle.

To me, I think if you have to ask, then it's almost certainly *not* worth the huge price diff. For that kind of $$$ diff, you could probably buy the DLP now and save the $$$ to upgrade other aspects of your HT (or simply buy a bunch of BD titles) and/or upgrade the display again sooner (when better/bigger plasmas or other displays will come down substantially in price).

BTW, I'm not sure how frequently this plasma issue comes up, but there's the green phosphor delay/trail issue to look into also.

Its all about the number of pixels vs. the size of tv you want. You will not see a $3k difference. But I would suggest visiting a store and seeing for yourself. Mostly you are paying for a thinner tv, not better quality picture.

flat panel vs RP technology.

RP technology relies on screen gain there for you will have less viewing angle.

RP technology can have places where dust can settle in the light path which can cause image degradation.
