What is the best way to purchase the matrix movies on blu ray ? I noticed there is a 7 disk set from 2008 and an anniversary disc and a few others.

Best way is the 2018 4K release, of course. Anything released prior to that is the old masters.

The UHD Blu-ray release of the Trilogy contains newly mastered Blu-rays (see my review), which so far have not been released as separate Blu-ray releases.

Just do not redeem the digital copy on Vudu - they will give you the Trilogy in HD across all Movies Anywhere partners. Redeem on Movies Anywhere directly - any issues and Movies Anywhere will usually help you out.
