Can anyone tell me what Progressive Scan is? I'm looking to buy a Portable DVD Player and am wondering how much of a difference there is between a progressive scan player and a non-progressive scan player. Thanks

There are two ways a picture is shown on the screen:
Interlaced
Every other line of resolution is splashed on the screen first, then the rest are filled in.
Progressive Scan
All lines of resolution are splashed at once. This results in a smoother picture quality.
Progressive scan can only be used if you have a digital television. If you do not, then it is useless feature. Only get it if you either have or are planning to buy a digital television. Since it's a portable DVD player, you will have to consider the possibility of using it on digital televisions and if the improvement is worth it. If you know you won't be using it on digital screens, then forget about it.

Yes, you can only see the benefit of progressive scan on an HDTV ready set. If you have a regular TV, it is a waste of money (gives no better picture than non-progressive DVD player.)
