What is Double Scan Audio? (1 Viewer)

Not too long ago, I purchased a Samsung DVD Player (DVD-HD931) and in the audio options it mentions 2x scan audio, or "Double Scan Audio".

What is this exactly? In what situations does it benefit the user?

It also offers PCM Down Sampling. Likewise, what is this feature, and how (if at all) and when does it benefit the user?

Sadly, the users manual doesn't exactly explain it and I've not found anything by searching Google. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Sounds like it keeps the audio on when you fast forward at 2x speed. My Panny CP72 does this too, but I've yet to find a real good reason for it.
