Sorry for being a little stupid but could someone explain to me what this format is.
There was (now defunct) a format that was meant to compete with DVDs that was pushed by Circuit City that involved getting a special DVD player and was a copy protection scheme where movies would not be viewable forever. When someone talks about DIVX now, they are usually talking about - http://www.divx.com/
Are these downloads of HD quality.
No from what I understand - this should explain a bit more: http://www.divx.com/divx/whatisdivx.php It has the reputation of being the MP3 of video. I've never personally seen it.
Depends on the amount of compression and resoloutin you use. Divx is just proprietaty mpeg4. Check directv for a well known implementation of mpeg4.
It is capable of HD.
I am not sure if the old CC Divx and the streaming download format is connected somehow but the quality of the downloads is really amazing. Even in non HD If you download the free player you will get some sample files to judge the quality by
They are not connected as far as I'm aware. I just tried to clarify that there is/was more than one thing known as DIVX. I've seen people confuse them before.
The CC rentals ver divix, divx. Divx started as a hacked version of MS's mpeg 4 codec. BTW, thats what DIVX is, a codec, not a streaming download format. The format is still AVI.
