I don't know why, but all the center speakers I have listened to and owned sound hollow. The knuckle wrap test usually has the same results, very resonant sound when I came knocking. It makes dialogue sound unnatural, and I was curious if there are some good center speaker options in the $300-500 bracket that sound good without all the boxiness.

Thanx in advance.

In my opinion it would be best to sonically match the left and right channel vs. worry about the knuckle test. For home theater at least, bass management will remove a good portion of the low frequencies which could cause something audible with a less than great cabinet build. If you want to do away with the cabinet problem, there's always the Magnepan MMG center for $299 direct from magnepan.com. There's plenty of well built stuff, especially in the used market.
