On my receiver manual, it says this cuts distorted sound from the subwoofer? How does this work?

It also has an LFE attenuator with a 0db, 10db, and infinity setting. Why would anyone want to attenuate LFE?

    Thanks.

I've heard of low pass, but not low "cut".

By your explanation of the low cut filter I'm assuming its similar to the subwoofer peak level setting I have on my 5800. I'm guessing that it sets the peak amount of distortion it will accept and cut the signal off after that point but that's a guess.
