A guy I know wants me to design and build his new HT. He's willing to put around 2 to 3 grand into a 6 or 7 speakers set-up. What are good matched speakers for such a price?
Buy the 6.1 package and 2 r3's for the back surrounds. Should be around 2500 before shipping then buy a sub with the remaining 500.Nothing against the Diva's, but I think spending $2500 on them and only $500 on a sub would be a mistake. You don't want to skimp on the sub, for a few hundred more you can get something from SVS or HSU that would be much more capable.
I just ordered an Axiom/SVS setup: M60ti mains, VP150 center, and a combination of M3ti and QS8 for the surrounds along with a SVS 20-39 PCi. Grand total was about $2200 (purchased factory-outlets for the M60's to save some money). You could step up to the M80's for the mains and still be under $3k without compromising on the sub. In fact, you could probably step up to the CS-Plus with Samson amp and still be under budget.
