I am building a new HT entertainment center and ask your advice:

How high should the television be from the floor -- it is going to be 36" - 46 " in size and I will be sitting 10 feet from the television.

Also, how many shelves should I build for holding components: reciever, dvd, vcr, cd player, satellite receiver, hdtv converter. Any others that I am missing?

Also, how big should each component shelf be?

Any other thoughts on the construction? btw, speakers will be wired to the sides of the room so they will not be included in the entertainment center.

Thanks in advance.

Width or height? As I said above, make the height variable. The standard width for an equipment rack is 19". You won't find components wider than that. You may want to go a couple inches wider for ventilation. (Racks have about an inch gap on each side internally - the front access width is 19".)
