What happens to equipment if the outlet is not grounded and the polarity is reversed? (1 Viewer)

I only ask because for the past four years my house has been wired incorrectly. Could this actually hurt the equipment?

Thanks!

The main problem, I believe, would have been a shock hazard if there was a short in a component or power cord. The reversed polarity was not a huge problem other than possibly more hum and noise. If you got the problem fixed, consider yourself lucky!

HD has a little circuit tester for $4. Go pick one up and check out the rest of your outlets.
