My house is 50+ years old and there are probably a few holes/cracks between the basement and 1st floor.

So what happens if your IB has a leak somewhere in the same room as where the manifold "fires" into?

It would probably have to be a fairly large leak to affect the quality of the IB...A guess...

Because the IB is a huge box, the internal pressure is extremely low. As a result small leaks, even multiple ones, are insignificant.
