It's a new year, so let's find out what you have in store for this year!

I don't plan to purchase as many DVDs as I did these previous years, but it's not because of the Economy.

Of course there's always that unexpected oppurtunity that pops up from time to time!

Post Away!

I think this will be a scant year for me.

Robin Hood Series 3 (it arrived the other day)
Lost Season 6
Fugitive Season 4
African Queen
Ashes to Ashes (if it's released for Region 1)
...maybe True Blood Season 2

And who knows what bargain bundles will pop up. But I'm pretty much set for everything I want.
And it goes without saying, Deadwood Season 4 and Firefly Season 2

I'll be getting the next releases of these currently on-air shows, most of which should be released in the Fall:

Desperate Housewives
Eureka
Gossip Girl
Lost
Melrose Place
90210
One Tree Hill
Simpsons
South Park
Ugly Betty
United States of Tara

...and any releases of the following soaps. We have release dates for the next collections of these soap operas; let's hope all these shows get at least one more release later in the year:

Beverly Hills 90210
Dynasty
Falcon Crest
Melrose Place

+ the Lucy Show
the Mothers-in-Law
X-Men the Animated Series vol. 5

Other than that, I might try out a few other things. There's not a whole lot on the current release schedule that's making me do cartwheels. A lot of my old favorites have already been released or they've been stuck at season 3 or whatever. The one thing that would make me break open the piggy bank would be if the darn studios would complete some of the series I have that they've abandoned (a list too long for me to bother with. Oh hell--I'll do it anyway: )

All in the Family
the Big Valley
California Dreams
Family Ties
Fantasy Island
the Flying Nun
Green Acres
Hart to Hart
The Jeffersons
Party of Five
Weird Science

...and probably 5 or 10 other things that I'm dying to have but that don't readily come to mind...

Small Wonder and Lost 6. I hope Disney doesn't make us wait until the end of the year for Lost...with the show ending this season there's no reason not to release this soon after the finale. I was going to list Family ties but I think Paramount may have lost interest in releasing the remaining seasons. (How else to explain the lack of an announcement after a 3-month gap between releases?)

I'll be completing Monk, David Tennant's tenure on Doctor Who, and Lost this year. But here's the tentative list:

MI-5: Volume 7
Doctor Who: The Complete Specials (Blu-ray)
Monk: Season Eight
Brooklyn Bridge: Season 1 (if this holds up and CBS/Paramount didn't replace music)
Flashpoint: Season 2 (hoping for another Blu-ray release from Phase 4 Films)
Rhoda: Season Two (...and whatever else Shout! Factory may be deviously working on.)
Burn Notice: Season Three (Blu-ray)
White Collar: Season One (It has already been renewed for a second season, so a DVD release is a given. I'm hoping for a Blu-ray purchase on this one.)
Psych: The Complete Fourth Season (I own the first three seasons on DVD, but I'd love this season on Blu-ray.)
Friday Night Lights (If Universal can start securing the music, include the DirecTV versions for Seasons 3-5, and release this on Blu-ray, I'll finally purchase this.)
Early Edition: The Third Season (I just pray the studio comes through securing the music for the last two seasons, as well. And I'm hopeful the Rod Serling ending will get included in one of these sets. Because nothing will angry me more if this gets abandoned, edited or music gets replaced.)
Numb3rs: The Sixth Season (This will be another shortened season and is under consideration for a seventh season, but this would be a good time for a Blu-ray release.)
Lost: The Complete Sixth Season (Blu-ray)

My guess is that it'll be out in September or October so it and the series set can be on the shelves for the entire holiday window.

I really don't have any firm plans as I tend to be more of an opportunistic buyer picking up titles on my "wish list" when the price is right.

Waiting for the right price on:

"Honey West" (looking hard at it right now...)
"Adventures of Robin Hood" - S4
"Two and a Half Men" - S3 up
"30 Rock" - S3
"Becker"
"Dave's World"
"Hetty Wainthropp Investigates"
"Waiting for God"
"One Foot in the Grave" - S2 up
"The Dick Van Dyke Show"
"I Dream of Jeannie" - S3 up
"The Patty Duke Show"
"Lovejoy" S3 up
"The Beverly Hillbillies"

And a whole "short list" of titles I'll pick up as impulse buys if the price is low enough. Of course there are those abandoned series I'd love to have more of that'll get purchased without hesitation if the next season is released.

I have the following on my list

1. Barnaby Jones, S1
2. Matt Houston, S2
3. Dallas S12 & S13
4. Hawaii Five-O, S8
5. Vegas, S1-V2
6. Night Court S3
7. Emergency! S6
8. Simon & Simon S4
9. Adam-12, S4

I am wait and see on a few other dvds. I do want to complete my Cheers (S5), Enterprise (S3) and Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea (S2-S4). There are few other season i am also looking at

1. Good Times (Complete Series)
2. Sanford & Son (Complete Series.

I am also in the position that i just about have all the shows i am looking for. I like a few other shows, but, i have my doubts if the S2 and on will be released for them. So, i am just focusing on new releases and if the price is right then old series that have been released like the Man from UNCLE, Seinfeld. etc.

I like to see a few more cartoons releases and it will be interesting to see next volume for saturday morning cartoons. I hoping the following are included

1. Jabberjaw
2. Skatebirds
3. Partridge Family 2200AD
4. Emergency +4
5. Jeannie

I just hope they do not double dip include shows that already have had box sets released.

I am planning to get more Sets later this Summer including:

Season 6 of Emergency

Seasons 5-8 of Hawaii Five-O

And all seasons of The Rockford Files and Magnum P.I.

But none of this will happen until this Summer as money will be TIGHT until then. (I'm working on some other projects that are tying up all my cash!)

One advantage of being region-free/PAL-capable: I just bought the complete collection boxset of One Foot from AmazonUK for about the equivalent of US$28.00, which is just a few dollars more than you would pay for a single season over here in the US! I've never seen an episode yet, but at that price felt compelled to pounce on it!

Haven't looked much beyond there yet.

With the Vintage TV on DVD market drying up quickly my list is much shorter than it has been in years past. And since we've had several classic series that were originally on a studio's schedule be taken off the schedule, I'm not going to list things that I'd assume are coming (like The Lucy Show S3). I'm only going to list things we know for absolute sure are coming, because anything beyond that might be just spitting in the wind.

Definite Buys (unless we get word of a big problem with music or video quality issues):

Have Gun, Will Travel S4, V1
Father Knows Best S4
Patty Duke S2
Hawaii Five-O S8
The Lucy Show S2

Possible Buys (depending on music issues, syndicated prints, and/or pricing)

My Three Sons S2, V1
The Fugitive S4
Mr. Ed S2

Gotta be on Sale Buys (ones that I'll get only when the prices are at least 50% below MSRP)

Scarecrow & Mrs. King S1
The Virginian S1
Matlock S4
Barnaby Jones S1

There are a few other things I know are supposed to be coming that I'll buy, but since they've yet to have official release dates I'll hold off mentioning them.

Here's my 2010 list. It isn't as big as years past because so many shows I've been collecting have wrapped up (or they've released all of my "wanted" seasons).

1. Mystery Science Theater 3000 - Volume 17

2. Matlock - Season 4

3. Ironside - Season 3 (hopefully shipping/arriving soon!)

Also, put me down for any new releases of The Rockford Files (come on, Universal...give us those final four movies!), Perry Mason and The Fugitive.

The only new series I'll add to my DVD library this year is the new version of MELROSE PLACE.

Otherwise, I'll stick with shows I've already started:

24 - Redemption, Season 7
THE 4400 - Season 4
ARMY WIVES - Season 3
BATTLESTAR GALACTICA - Season 4.0, Season 4.5, The Plan
BIG LOVE - Season 3
BROTHERS & SISTERS - Season 4
DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES - Season 6
ER - I only own the first two seasons of that one, I'll try to get at least up to Season 8 this year
GREY'S ANATOMY - Season 5
THE L WORD - Seasons 5 and 6
LAS VEGAS - Season 5
THE MARY TYLER MOORE SHOW - Seasons 5 and 6
MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE - Season 7
NIP/TUCK - Season 5 - Volume 1, Season 5 - Volume 2
SMALLVILLE - Season 8
STAR TREK - Seasons 2 and 3
TWIN PEAKS - Season 2, Fire Walk with Me
WEEDS - Season 5

Needless to say, should anything listed in my signature see the light of day this year, I'd buy it in a heartbeat.

Definitely ``Lost'' S6 on Blu-ray, ``Emergency!'' S6 on DVD.
``JAG'' S10.

Reluctantly, I'll buy ``Flash Forward'' S1 Volume 1...even tho I'd really rather buy the first full season on Blu-ray.

``Sabrina the Teenage Witch'' S6.
``Monk'' S8
``Night Court'' S3

``In Plain Sight'' S2
Still waiting on ``Grey's Anatomy'' S5 on Blu-ray.

Slim pickings indeed so far for 2010, as far as announcements for classic TV shows go. Mine are:
  • Barnaby Jones Season 1
  • Cannon Season 2, Vol. 2
  • Hawaii Five-0 Season 8
  • Emergency! Season 6
I'm also hoping for more Mannix soon; I've really been enjoying that show lately, particularly season 2.
