This has been bugging me for some time now. I understand what a DVD-18 is, just not why it's called that. Anyone? [IMG]

Each side of a RSDL DVD (has 2 layers of data) can hold up to 9GB of data, so for a dual-sided RSDL DVD, it holds up to 18GB of data, so it's called DVD-18.

The number is roughly the number of GB on the disk. A single sided single layer disk is DVD-5, a single layer "flipper" is DVD-10, a single sided "reverse spiral dual layer" (RSDL) disk is DVD-9, and finally a double sided RSDL is DVD-18. Lately there have been some DVD-14's, which are RSDL on one side and single layer on the other.

It's 7 more than 11, isn't it? [IMG] (Nigel Tufnel)
