I think the general discussion says it's a good player, but not as good as the 555es (how enlightening I know, a model with a higher number being better at what it does).
It does do sacd, if you only want cd-r you probably could go cheaper (but that 5 year warranty you mentioned is nice if you're prone to bad luck)
I believe Richard is looking at the Sony RCD-W222ES CD recorder, which has a five-disc stacked CD changer as well as a recording deck, not the SCD-C222ES SACD/CD changer. Here's a link for the 'W222ES:
I just bought one of these about a month ago. It's a very nice unit, but I really don't use it for critical listening since it's in my bedroom system. It sure is nice for making quick CD dubs though, and I've even recorder some older MD's I've made to CD! However, the one complaint I have is that it doesn't have a keyboard jack for entering CD-Text info. Using the remote to title discs is a real chore.
Sure enough, ES components come with a five-year warranty, and the 'W222ES is no exception. I bought mine for $400 from Oade Bros. Audio, FWIW.
