So I won a blender quite some time ago and have recently discovered it in my closet collecting dust in it's box. I had planned on using it but never did.

It's a big fancy Cuisinart one with a large glass jug, crushes ice... combs your hair... the whole bit...

and I'm thinking I should start using it.... juices... drinks.... smoothies... sundaes....

what do you guys do with your blenders?

Anyone want to share their blender recipies?

    Thanks!

margarita!... o.k. so you don't need a blender unless you like them blended. it's like forty some degrees here and it feels like a heat wave... i'm making one now!
p.s. you can also crack the ice with the blender using a few short blasts.

Only constant thing I do with ours is to make milkshakes, i.e, chocolate milkshakes, strawberry milkshakes, etc.

To Quote or Misquote Will Smith from the movie "Enemy of the State", "When I come home from work, sometimes I just like to Blend".

It's been a while but alas it went something like that [IMG]

For myself, we hardly use it but when we do its from smoothies .

    Ok, but it's very difficult...

    1) add TGIF's Mud Slide mix
    2) add ice cubes
    3) turn on blender
    4) drink

p.s. You may want to add a step between 3 & 4...Turn off the blender. [IMG]

I use mine for mixing sauces, chopping ingredients and blending drinks.

Here are two great stir-fry sauces:

Sour Orange Good for chicken and shrimp
    • 1/3 Cup orange juice
    • 2 Tbsp rice wine vinegar
    • 2 Tbsp Seville orange marmalade
    • 1 Tbsp dry sherry
    • 1 Tbsp chili garlic sauce
    • 1 tsp cornstarch
    Hot Hoison Great for beef
    • 3 Tbsp dry sherry
    • 3 Tbsp rice wine vinegar
    • 3 Tbsp hoison sauce
    • 3 Tbsp low sodium soy sauce
    • 4 tsp chili garlic sauce (less if you don't want it too spicy)
    • 1 Tbsp brown sugar
    • 1 tsp cornstarch
    • 1/4 tsp kosher salt
    Blend ingredients together
Add sauce during last minute of stir-frying
    Enjoy!!!

Kirk, your response made me think of something funny:

Kirk: "Hey! This Margarita was supposed to be apple, not chocolate? And why is it so thick?"
(Kirk quickly realizes that he has a chocolate milkshake)
    Kirk: "Oh no! THE KIDS!!"

Were you spying on my family last weekend ? [IMG] I was wondering why the kids were especially rowdy.

Kids do love Strawberry/Banana "smoothies".... very easy to get confused which batch is which when also making adult daiquiris

A great tip from the carribean resorts: Make them all non-alchoholic. For the adults, pour rum into the bottom of the glasses before you add the blended concoction, then stir in the booze. For the finishing touch, float a little 151 on top and enjoy !

As for blenders, I suggest getting a top quality one. My wife gave me a Waring stainless steel model from Williams Sonoma. Very pricey, but blends quickly and consistently. No leftover ice chunks.

Uh-oh, it's Sunday morning at 10:45am and I'm already thinkin' blender drinks. You folks are such enablers. C'mon Spring/Summer !!!!

So true, when I was over my Aunt and Uncles house for a party, their regular blender started making a burnt rubber smell after a lot of MudSlide rounds. The metal ones are great and are more efficient.

I have the same Cuisinart blender you have and it's a powerhouse. I like smoothies but I'm lazy, so I just buy the bagged frozen fruit chunks from Sams, mix with yogurt, throw in some milk, and blend. The only thing I don't like about most blenders is taking the base off to clean the container, so I replaced my Cuize with a Waring pro type with a one piece container and a beautimus copper base. Much easier to clean out as there's no gasket for gunk to form under. As far as performance goes however, the Cuize seemed just as strong or maybe even stronger. It also seemed to blend my frozen fruit chunk smoothies with less prodding from the top.

I once blended sour cream, lettuce, salsa, and beans to make a dip.

Adding the lettuce was a bad idea and I had to toss it out.

My friend's brother make a blender out of a weekwacker. He brings it to Buffet every year to make Maragaritas. He used to manage a 99 resteraunt had hung from the ceiling in the bar.

*L* I couldn't tell if you were kidding or not, Dave, but yeah it is hard to find em made of glass I've found out. I'm going to go find a bag of frozen fruit chunks and maybe see where that turns out..... a friend told me a simple smoothie recipe of a banana, glass of orange juice, and a bunch of frozen fruit chunks would be a good mix so I'm going to try that. I'm not much of a drinker, but I might have to try some of your recipes above for margaritas, mudslides, and daquiris.

And yes, it IS pretty special to find a blender that combs your hair.... it took me much audition time to find one that does this successfully.

just bought a hand blender this morning specifically to make smoothies.
i use frozen rasberries, blueberries, blackberries, strawberrys, cut up some banana and add some vanilla yogurt.
the hand blender is a lot more effort than i was expecting to get a smooth consistency, especially when the berries are frozen, but the end result was a lot more satisfying than my previous method which was to just shake everything up by hand in a mason jar.

haven't tried adding OJ but maybe i will.
i wanted to go back on Adkins in the next few days, but these damn things are too tasty.
