You'd think that Gateway would ship the computer separate from the silcia in 2 boxes. Damn cost saving measures....

    Here's the solution...buy an SGI:

100% Silicon...I mean Silica! I wonder if they use Gateways to pack the SGI's?

Apparently Samuel Stephens Kistler didn't spend all of his time on silica.......It is interesting to note that, while teaching biology as a graduate student, Professor Kistler had in his class a very bright student named Margaret Coburn, who is now Mrs. Kistler.

I bought a leather jacket yesterday. And in the pocket,...hmmmm silica packet. I wonder how the rest of the cow fit in that tiny little package.

I just got my Comcast HD cable box today and when I opened the manual, guess what I found!!!!!?????
Needless to say, my cable box manual was bone dry [IMG]
The odd thing isn't the fact that it says "Do Not Eat" but the fact that it says "Throw Away" [IMG] Why the hell would I do that!?!?!?!?
Now, to figure out what to do with my little gift package from heaven....Hmmmm? e-Bay perhaps? [IMG]

Yep, gotta watch out for that explosive re-humidification.

No worries there... just toss in another silica packet from time to time.

But this does make me wonder if there is a limit to how many silica packets can be present in any given location, or if, like plutonium or other heavy elements they can reach a critical mass and spontaneously fission.

My friend Jason is a Paramedic and on the side he is a professional photographer. I went over to his house this evening to just hang. And I noticed his oven was on and said "hey what are you baking?"

"oh nothing I'm just recharging my silica packets"

    I almost fell over laughoing...

But he was he has these 3 inch by 5 inch packets that he stores with his large format camera and other equipment and once and a while he recharges them in the oven..

The oven dries them out for future use.

    Now we know.....

    ...and knowings half the battle....

One would have thought the silica would have dried this thread out by now...

I got a gadget catalog in the mail. One of the gadgets was a shoe dryer. It's filled with, you guessed it, silica, and it sucks the moisture out of your shoes. When it becomes saturated, you plug it into an outlet and it dehumidifies the silica so you can use it again.

The question though, is where does the moisture go when you plug it in? Does it go out through the wires, back to the electric company? What do they do with it? Do they have to have a silica-based moisture removal system in the power plant to recycle the moisture released from plug-in silica based shoe dryers? It makes you wonder...
