Even when I lived overseas, I never really attended foreign cinema but once, and I was too young to remember that clearly. This is just one of those stupid little things I've been curious about for a long time.

I mean, don't tell me the whole world eats popcorn in movie theaters. There's gotta be someone eating something else somewhere, right?

UK cinemas are mostly limited to the usual stuff - hotdogs, popcorn, nachos, sweets - all at vastly inflated prices.

This does depend on the country.

I went to one once in the Philippines and had a Coke with a stick of monkey meat.

Yeah but do the Scots serve Haggis?

I want to know if the French or Italians serve wine at the cinema.

Domestic candy is sold much more than popcorn here in Norway. At the start of each film you can hear almost everyone open up their plastic bag (or chocolate bar) searching for the right pieces. The crackling of the plastic bag goes on for like 30 minutes when most people run out of candy.

Can't imagine a theater experience without the crackling of plastic bags...[IMG]

Well, up here in the great white north, we have many Canadian delicacies in our theaters such as poutine, whale blubber and of course Smarties. [IMG]

    I'm just playing with y'all.

Somehow, eating poutine in the dark sounds like a recipe for disaster (or at least awfully messy fingers).

A lot of theaters here in canuckland serve nacho chips with CHEESE. It's like plastic that stays in liquid form at body temperature, and slowly congeals as it cools to room temperature.

Not foreign, but the IMAX theater at the New England Aquarium has "chocolate coated bugs" on sale. At first, my brother and I thought they were just novelty candies, but on closer inspection we actually saw "insect larva and/or cricket" in the list of ingredients. We have no idea how well these things sell.

At least it's truth in advertising (compared to raisinets)...

    DOH !

My local cinema grill offers guiness on draft, margaritas, burgers, grilled chicken sandwiches, snicker pie for desert, etc.

Too bad they aren't first run movies. But after a while, you don't really care. [IMG]

Sadly, my brother didn't recognize the crunchy frog skit when I started riffing on it in the lobby. What are they teaching kids today?

Draft Guinness and tasty chicken pesto sammiches. Though I'm not in a foreign land.

When I was on Vacation last in Chile they had a lot of different items that I was not used to seeing in the US. Many different kind of Popcorn including Sugar coated. ManJar which you would not see in the US and Alcoholic drinks were available. [IMG]

At the Studio Movie Grill here in Plano you can get a full meal!! They show first run movies and offer a full dinner and beer/wine/mixed drink menu.

I love going there on a date to watch a movie while drinking a pitcher of beer!

    Laters,
    Jeff

On my travels in Taiwan once my host mentioned that duck feet were served in the movie theaters there. He said that they were very popular with women..
