outlaw audio 1050 (preamp/power rear surrounds)

PSB alpha A/Vs (rear surround)

Totem mite T (center channel)

Sony DVD player

illusion audio 15 inch sub

I need a cd player under 500. I saw an arcam alpha 8 for slightly under 500. Any cd players you reccomend?

Bruce, welcome to the Forum. The subject of $500 CD players has been discussed quite a bit on this board over the past few months. A search should yield some useful information. If you can move up to $600, there are quality single-disc players to consider, such as the Ah! Njoe Tjoeb 4000, Heart CD5000, Music Hall MMF-CD25. For a little less, you could go with the NAD C 541i or Cambridge Audio D500SE. Another player to consider, though it is priced around $700, is the Arcam DiVA CD72T. These are all single-disc CD players.

A player you definitely ought to consider is the Sony SCD-C555ES five-disc carousel SACD/CD changer. In addition to CDs, it plays stereo and multi-channel SACDs. Build quality and sound quality are excellent. It retails for $800 (originally retailed for $1700), but mail-order dealers like Oade Bros. (1-229-228-0093 or 1-229-228-4480), J&R Music World (1-800-221-8180), and OneCall (1-800-340-4770) sell it for $550-600. They are authorized dealers. Tweeter and Good Guys stores sell the 'C555ES (for $800), so if you have one in your area, go check it out firsthand.
