Ah, Christopher's list reminded of another one I forgot. Saw REM on the Green tour. Opening act was Indigo Girls, before they were semi-famous.

As with many others here, the list is too long to be posted here in it's entirety, so I'll just offer some of my favorite highlights:

First concert: The Brady Bunch in 1971. I was five and my parents took me and my brother to see them perform at one of our local fairs when they went on one of their brief concert tours. Still remember them flying in on a helicopter and having the VERY colorful outfits like they had when they performed on the TV show.

Best concert: Judas Priest with Slayer opening on the last night of the Ram It Down tour in 1988. JP has always been my favorite band, and I've seen them several times, but they were a notch above this night. Halford's vocals were just amazing and his performance this night still ranks as the greatest vocal performance I've ever heard live with my own ears. It was also the first time of many that I got to see Slayer and they were also in superb form this night touring behind their favorite album of mine, South Of Heaven. Close second for best concert goes to L7/Love Battery/7 Year Bitch in a very small club in 1993.

Greatest number of times I've seen one group: I saw 7 Year Bitch twenty-six times between 1993 and 1997. Runners up: The Pleasure Elite (8x), Metallica (7x) and several groups all at 5x (Pantera, White Zombie, Slayer, L7, Joan Jett and on and on).

Most violent concert: Pantera with Trouble at a small club in 1991 (nearly got hit in the head by flying beer bottles two separate times during the show). Close runners up: White Zombie at the same club when someone set off pepper spray in the pit and a fifty foot diameter circle of us ended up choking and gasping for air on the ground and the show had to temporarily stop, Pantera at a medium sized venue when someone got stabbed in the back next to my car in the parking lot after the show was over.

Coolest concert to have been lucky enough to be at: Foo Fighters (unannounced) with Presidents Of The USA opening at Satyricon in Portland (holds about 300 people max). The show was a benefit concert for the Mia Zapata murder investigation fund with PUSA and a 'special suprise guest headliner.' I went to the show because I really wanted to see PUSA as they were starting to get a name locally (this was before their first album came out). Showed up a little early for the show and was very surprised to find I was the first person in line. Consequently, I got to be dead center, front row, right against the stage. Krist Novoselic was at the show watching from the side of the stage and MTV (plus Rolling Stone and several other rock mags) was there with a camera covering the whole thing as it turned out to be Foo Fighters first public performance. Dave Grohl was actually out mingling with the crowd during the PUSA performance which was quite refreshing to see. Close runner up: Feel very fortunate to have gotten to see Evil Stig's first two live performances (which were recorded and released as an album) and was quite honored to get to meet Joan Jett (long-time favorite artist of mine) at an in-store signing before the show:

Group I most would like to go back in time to see at their prime: Led Zeppelin on one of their 'on' nights during the 1975 tour.

Sadly, I feel exactly like Ralph Summa posted above at the end of his post, and have now not attended a concert for about five years (after seeing Marilyn Manson for the third time). I feel like I've pretty much gotten to see all the groups that were still in existence that I was interested in seeing and I'm very thankful that I've been fortunate enough to do that. Hopefully, new music will once again get to the excitement level that I once had for it and I will again feel compelled to get out and see some different groups in concert, but I'm certainly not holding my breath for that to happen at this point.

I'm sure there are a few others that I've forgotten also. All in all some very positive experiences. I met my idol Mike Patton outside of one of the Mr. Bungle concerts. I have also accidentally seen "Limp Bizkit" 5x at various festivals and shows where I was there to see the opening band or the band that they were opening for.

Damn you all! I never get to see a lot of concerts...

I never miss a U2 tour

Willie Nelson @ Billy Bob's in Ft. Worth - free!

Page & Plant

Firehouse at our little rinkydink summer festival - also free, and backstage passes! Those guys might not have the audience they once did, but they put on one helluva show

next up: Staind in Memphis on Oct 3 - free again. I'm on the guestlist :)

Four Tops / Temptations
Craig,
If you get a chance, post a little about the show. It's a shame that Levi Stubbs isn't healthy enough to tour right now, but I hear they have been putting on some great shows. The amazing G.C. Cameron is the current lead vocalist for the Temptations, and I'm curious how that is working out.
