I woke up to several red spots in my hairline almost a week ago. A broad red patch has now spread, and the original marks look pretty nasty. I went to the doctor today and he said I had a bacterial infection, so I'm on antibiotics.

But what initially punctured my skin to let in the infection? I never found any spider or bug, so presumably it's still lurking around my bed...

Don't let the bed bugs bite!

Gui, very funny! Perhaps that's what I should do, draw a face around it for disguise while at work, lol!

I do sleep with a cat on the bed, but it doesn't look much like cat claw marks to me.

There's no associated fever or suchlike, which also rules out a Brown Recluse.

Perhaps a bad dream and I did it to myself?!

Yup, plenty of grey hairs, and empty places where hair used to grow...

    Maybe it is from bedbugs?

CNN had an article on tv the other night saying that they are making a big comeback. Nasty little parasites that are near impossible to see during the day.

According to the article, they can go 6 months without eating and are immune to pesticides that get rid of spiders and ants.

Sorry to plant the image of those ugly thin bugs chomping on you at night. I know I had a bad dream about them the night after watching that article!

Well I know this won't make you feel any better, but I got bit by a recluse this summer and never had any associated fever or such. Just a real ugly, puffed-up, hard to the touch area the size of a football on my calf. After about a month it went away after taking cortisone and antibiotics from the doctor. If that puffy area starts to turn a darker red I would definetely go see the doctor again. Hopefully it wasn't a recluse bite. Good Luck.

Alien Anal Probes aside, That looks like a multible spider bite. I did a search on Google images for spider bites and it looks very similar. It could of been a brown recluse.

Brown recluse spider (Loxosceles reclusa): Symptoms occur 6-8 hours after the initially painless bite. The venom is necrotic and affects cellular tissue. The bite firstly appears as a mosquito bite but soon becomes more swollen and painful. Tissue death and ulceration occurs to form a lesion up to 10 cm in diameter. This lesion can take months to heal and antibiotics must be taken to prevent a secondary bacterial infection. The most severe wounds occur in areas where there is a higher fat content such as the thighs, abdomen and buttocks. Scarring can occur and in some cases skin grafts and plastic surgery may be needed.

Whatever the case, go have it checked out before that spreads to more sensitive regions.

Looks like tinea capitis (aka ringworm of the scalp), a type of fungal infection. This is unusual in adults however. It can be spread at the barber shop (that's what the blue stuf is supposed to help prevent) and through carriers, such as pets, often cats. This matches nicely with the history of sleeping with a cat on the bed.

Good luck with treatment. It should clear up nicely.
