Sure, there are a lot of good ad campaigns. Absolute, Gap, anything with Britney... But I'm looking for television, print, or radio ads that truely changed the way the world worked. For example, Coca-Cola basically invented the idea of Santa Clause. Any ideas? Thanks!

Are you referring more to product endorsements and commercials?

Maybe none of these are what you would call "advertising campaigns" but......

First thing that came to my mind was "Save the Whales". Have they actually been saved? I dunno but the campaign sure was heard and kinda changed the world.

I think the "Rock the Vote" campaign was marginally successful too, although I couldn't recite any hard data to back it up.

Any campaign related to Sept 11th is sure to be considered successful.

Others that were at least marginally successful:

    "Amnesty Now"

    "Feed the World"

The original Volkswagen Beetle campaign from back in the 1960s--a brilliant advertising coup led by genius copywriter and creative director David Ogilvy: "Think small."

It is considered by ad people to be one of the greatest campaigns in the industry's history.

Well, it kind of did change the world. It heralded in the era of personal computers. Apple destroyed their position by closing off the system to most outside developers ... but it's ironic that this closed system is what makes the Apple OS so much stabler than Windows.

Btw, thanks everyone for the input!

    "Must be the shoes"
    "McDonald's, Ronald and you!!!"
I'd write the lyrics to McDonald' BLT, but my memory is hazy, so I'll pass. [IMG]

It didn't quite change the world but it changed Canada a bit. If your Canadian you know the I AM CANADIAN rant and subsequent commercials. Very funny indeed.

There are definitely some that had a big impact, Like,

    "Reading is Fundemental"

"Only you can prevent forest fires"

    and for Visual Imagery,

    The crying Indian

How about the first Lite Beer commercials featuring sports personalities? Since then, virtually no beer commercial has been about the beer itself.
