This is tough if you look at which are his best performances, I'd say:
Raging Bull
Taxi Driver
Cape Fear
The Godfather Part 2
Mean Streets
If I were to look at the best films then:
Raging Bull
Goodfellas
Taxi Driver
Godfather Part 2
Heat

If your going to include GF2 (which I should have known would happen considering his performence) then make it a top 6. I can't put GF2 in my box set if it is going to be it the Godfather box now can I? :)

Robert De Niro is the best. Bar none. He always gives a great performance. His best films are (in no particular order):
  • Taxi Driver
  • Raging Bull
  • The Godfather II
  • Heat
  • GoodFellas

As for the bad rap about the characters--hey, I've seen space operas that put their emphasis on human personalities and relationships. They're called "Star Trek" movies. Give me transparent underwater cities and vast hollow senatorial spheres any day. --Roger Ebert on The Phantom Menace

Being a huge fan of De Niro and Scorsese, I HAD to respond to this poll!
1. Taxi Driver
2. Raging Bull
3. Goodfellas
4. Once Upon a Time in America
5. Cape Fear
Honorable mentions go to King of Comedy, Midnight Run, Heat, and Godfather 2. Also, he did a GREAT job of acting in the Untouchables! Unfortunately, his role of Al Capone was relatively small and he did not have nearly enough screen time!
