Wasn't sure where to put this, as it both annoys and baffles me.

When chefs on cooking shows (or in real life too, I guess) do not remove rings from their hands before digging into and mixing food like meatloaf or bread dough.

Annoyance: Rings have to harbor lots of bacteria and germs, as they come into contact with almost everything you touch and are not cleaned as often or as thoroughly as hands. It must be very unsanitary.

Bafflement: Not to mention the bits of food that get stuck in the band and stones from whatever you're mixing. Why would someone want their rings full of food particles?

That's why I refuse to go touch screen. Good old-fashioned laptop with a regular keyboard, touch-pad and a Blu-Ray player with an HDMI port, all the fancy new gizmos so I can watch movies on my HDTV, I'm happy. Even though it still has that sucky Windows 10 :(, it works.

I still email stuff to myself and keep it on the hard drive, even the old 1.44 floppies on my old Windows 98 PC, the humongous beige slab, but hey, it works and it's great for older games :laugh::laugh:

Have a 21" monitor, really cool with black plastic, not the beige, generic computer look. great resolution, but CRT and weighs about 150 lbs. :D
It reached the point a few years back that I foundthe 1.44 Floppies had become little more than space wasters. Besides that, as permanent storage, their durability is somewhat limited. Once I got sufficiently motivated to transfer the floppy files to other less cumbersome media, I cheerfully chucked the disks in the trash and haven't looked back! :D

I concur with you regarding that sucky Windows 10 OS, although I wouldn't go back to Windows 8 either! :P

One of the main reasons i love my house. We're residential, but a major arterial two blocks away.

Yet, due to one of those acoustic wonders, a very steep hill for about a block, so all the sound is dissipated or goes over our heads. The best thing the city did was re-do the bus routes. The bus used to drive up and down the street three houses away, along with all the assorted riff-raff, got moved about 15 years ago. Sounds kind of snobby, but it made a huge difference in the quality of the people living in the neighborhood.

I had wind chimes stolen, a waist high vase from Mexico my grandparents owned, filled with 150 lbs. of rocks, and still was stolen, along with all the rocks. Not a problem since the bus route moved.

So annoying because I knew who did it, but couldn't prove the little punk had the items. Thankfully the thugs left soon after and normal people moved in.

Total peace and quiet :)

Sticking with the thread, I think what annoys me most is how little some people care for and respect others, they're just out for themselves.
How fortunate that in your case, the "riff-raff" moved away. Sadly in our case, we seem to continuously get stuck with crappy next door neighbors. Lest anyone think that we might actually be among the problematic riff-raff, here's a (fairly) brief overview of the crap we've had to put up with over the past several years:
- Our old Bell Satellite Dish, along with the top of our fencing was forcibly "removed" by one of our former next door neighbors (I'm sure it was them, but of course, we could not technically prove it!) along with a few of his buddies, on their last night in our complex. We'd actually given up Bell's services some time before that, so it actually proved to be a favor, in that respect.

- As for our current next door neighbor, I reported her to the local Humane Society a couple of years back, as she was leaving her Husky outside for hours on end without leaving so much as a water dish, never mind food. The poor animal appeared to be just about starved to death. He was mercifully taken away a few weeks later after other tenants complained, some of them to the local Police Department. Our current beef with this low life (I don't use that term lightly!) is her refusal to remove her jumbo bags of garbage, which have sat next to our shared walkway all winter. We can't even open our front window for fresh air because of this.

I could probably write a book detailing our many beefs over the past 23 years that we've lived in our residence, but I believe that energy would be better spent towards preparing to move to the southern part of our province, instead. There's so many reasons that my wife and I can no longer handle living in the near north, with lousy neighbors only being a part of it. We hope to be out by autumn, or next winter, at the latest. It won't be soon enough, regardless.

CHEERS! :)

It annoys me when yesterday's treasure is today's crap. When I first retired, I borrowed all the season by season DVDs of the 5 Star Trek series from our library system and copied them for my collection.
Often a set would be damaged and I would have to re-order to get say disc 2 season 3 or something. I then made covers for each. Later to save space I transferred all the discs to thin covers and re-tooled the inserts to fit. It probably took me a couple of years to complete and watch everything.
Recently I purchased TOS, TNG, and Enterprise Blu ray sets from Amazon.uk. I just tosses out all my treasured DVD+Rs! The garbage pail was full!

I guess I am at that age when everything is annoying. Here is another one:
We have large rolling suitcases. We take them on every trip. Sometimes they are full if we are staying a week, and sometimes they are almost empty. I bring a cpap machine wherever I go, and my wife brings a small fan.
When we roll into the lobby of a hotel we invariably get a comment from some wag who says something like "are you staying all week -- ha ha ha". Or at a casino hotel -- are those for all your winnings -- ha ha ha." I find this incredibly annoying, and really want to say "F...Off ha ha ha". (We do most of our travelling in the States however, and my wife reminds me that I don't want to be shot!)
Meanwhile, we see other people with tiny rolling suitcases who have other bags bungied to them carrying another bag slung over their shoulders and a fanny pack, while we have one each.

I guess I am at that age when everything is annoying.

I find my tolerance for various forms of "idiocy", varies considerable on a case-by-case basis as I get older.

In a general sense, it basically boils down to how much "control" I'm willing to either exercise or give up.

In practice, I find I tend to be annoyed very easily by things/events where I tend to exercise a lot of control (whether real or perceived). The annoyance + anger almost always has to do with a loss of control (whether real or perceived).

For things/events where I have given up any and all control over, I'm usually at peace with it and usually indifferent about it when it pops up.

(I don't really want to continue on this line of thought, since it may veer into verboten territory).

They're good devices for covertly transporting dead bodies.

:)
This actually reminds me of an episode of THE FIRST 48, in which a rolling suitcase was actually used for the purpose of transporting a young lady, who while not dead, was unconscious. It was with the help of a Hotel security camera, which captured the kidnapper's excessive difficulty in rolling the suitcase over the gap between the hallway and the elevator, that led to his eventual arrest, and the young lady's rescue.

On my Son and I's recent trip to the UK, those rolling suitcases sure came in handy when traveling on the London Underground Tubes, what with the many stairwells and escalators that we traversed. Not a soul commented regarding our use of these. The disruption of the Underground and Overground services (Last Wednesday evening and Thursday afternoon, respectively!), on the other hand, did prove somewhat of an annoyance! :P

The "Mind the gap between the Train and the Platform" warning that played over the PA at every stop on the London Underground Tubes will stick in my memory for some time, I suspect!

I don't recall having people comment on our suitcases, so I don't share your experience. We do have something in common, I have sleep apnea too and have to travel with a cpap. However, I'm unwilling to trust it to checked luggage and put in my carryon. If my luggage were lost or delayed, it would a very huge problem for me.

I also have a dental appliance which was fitted by my dentists. It clips into my teath and moves my jaw forward, so that I breath properly when asleep. This is a little uncomfortable so I keep it in reserve to use if there is a power failure or the cpap breaks down.

That's the way it is with my Diabetic Kit, especially my Insulin, Pens, and associated Sharps. It is actually recommended that all essential medications be included with carry on luggage for the reason that you rightly fear. On our connecting flight from Iceland to England, there was a slight delay in taking off because of a passenger sitting adjacent to us, who apparently had an issue with some lack of medication. She decided to remain on the flight and deal with it later, via email correspondence. In that moment, I was suddenly quite thankful to not be lacking in my own essential medications. Annoying as it can be, planning ahead in this area does pay off, in terms of piece of mind.

Getting new eyeglasses.

I should have known better, but due to my insurance, a place I went to several years ago (and my wife too) was in top tier of our plan so I decided to go to them for full exam and glasses. Note that the first time I tried them, they didn't do my script correctly and I couldn't see well when I got my new glasses back then.

Jump to two weeks back and I get eye test done, find a nice pair of frames for the progressives I need, everyone is very nice as usual, and we order them up. Cut to last week and I get new glasses and sure enough, vision in my main eye (have slight lazy eye) isn't very clear, lady says, "Give it a week to get used to". So I do. I finally couldn't take it any more and went in yesterday to complain. They set me down and run tests, check cut of glasses etc, claim everything is "within specs" but they will have lab cut me new lens for right eye because "maybe the lens was defective". Ugh. SO now I wait 10 more days and all I can say is I will be pissed if it doesn't fix the issue.

I'm struggling daily to read computers and street signs etc. I should have followed my instinct and found other shop, oh well, I shall see if the 2nd time is a winner.

And yet why do I get the sense that you and I both think that it won't be any better...

I am VERY particular about my eye care and know exactly the aggravation of which you speak...

That must be a huge annoyance to be unable to see properly in all situations.

For me, my vision is currently in an annoying in-between state. To properly read mobile device screens, I have to prop up my glasses, as lettering and images are blurred when I'm wearing them, and yet when viewing my 15.6 inch PC Laptop Screen, I cannot view anything clearly without them, even though my eyes are within about 2 feet of that Screen. For Book reading, it's even worse when I have to prop up or remove my glasses in order to read text, but put them back on to see accompanying photos clearly. YEESH! :P

Annoying.

PLEASE...PLEASE!...If you are a business, especially a decent sized one, STOP USING FACEBOOK AS YOUR MAIN WEBSITE PRESENCE!!

I don't use FB, I despise FB actually and I don't want to sign up for FB just to see your business information or restaurants menu!! Do you not realize not everyone in the world uses FB and we don't want to open it to try to find your address/ph# only to be bombarded with FB nag pages telling me to sign up or I can't view your stupid pages.

LIKE X10 :thumbs-up-smiley: I also despise this emerging trend.

Speaking of restaurants, I'm annoyed when people at a nearby table stand up to leave, then don't leave, but instead loiter around and over your table, usually with their ass right at table level.

If you're finished and getting ready to leave, please make your way to the exit and wait for the rest of your party to catch up in the foyer/lobby. Don't back your ass right up next to my face and food and stand there.

Unfortunately, none of this applies to my situation. I have astigmatism (Which I've found rules out the reading glasses option.), and have suffered from nearsightedness since my early 20s. I believe that my current situation is a result of shifting nearsightedness, which seems to run in my family. However, my sisters are a bit more fortunate, in that they don't have my astigmatism, and thus are able to use reading glasses. Just imagine my frustration when the subject periodically comes up with one of them well meaningly suggesting the reading glasses solution, which I found out the first time will not work in my case.

CHEERS! :)
