Hello all,

I am in the process of building my own Sonotube Subwoofer, but I don't know what kind of Amp I'll need to run the sub. Can I use my Pioneer VSX 1018ah-k or should I buy a seperate 2 channel amp? I really don't want to spend too much right now on the amp if it's needed. Maybe pick something up off of ebay. Even if it's a bit older I can handle it for the time being. Any suggestions? Oh yeah, I don't want to spend anymore than $200 or less on a seperate amp for the time being. Thanks.

It depends. What driver did you choose and what alignment did you put it in? That determines the amount of power needed as well as other things like subsonic filters and parametric EQ.

Okay, okay,

I was going to go out and price the sonotube, but after doing some reading I realized I need to choose the driver first. Size depth, RMS ratings all that stuff. Especially before I think about buying an amp. Well I'm used to Car subwoofers, but don't know much about Subs for a Home theater setup. But from what I gather I'm looking for the same specs but it all depends on what I want.

I don't need anything that will blow my house up, but I want something that will give me great bass for the least amount of money. maybe 1x 15'' driver or 2x 12'' drivers. I will be mounting the driver on the bottom end plate if one driver is used, and if two is used then I'll mount one on either end. Again, this is a Sonotube set-up.

Does anyone have any suggestions on drivers? website that I can browse? I have a $600 budget.

I suggest the following:

Dayton DVC 15" - http://www.parts-express.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?Partnumber=295-190

Dayton 240w amp - http://www.parts-express.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?Partnumber=300-805

2 3" ports - http://www.parts-express.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?Partnumber=268-350

20" sonotube - 48" long

This will give you a great sub based on the tried and true Adire Alignment.

If you want sealed, then use 2 of the Dayton drivers. Use a Behringer A-500 amp to power it. 20" sonotube, 48" long. Build it like this - http://home.comcast.net/~audio-worx/page88Tube-Zilla1.html .
