Hi,

I'm trying to decide myself on what to buy. I only went to two stores yet and I didn't listen as long as I wanted (yet). I have noticed that Athena speakers don't seem that bad at all, and they're not too expensive... but no one seems to be talking about them. Anything wrong?

Here's my preliminary list:

Receiver: Kenwood VR6070 THX - $800
Front: Athena AS-F2 - $800
Surround: Athena As-B2 - $300
Center: Athena ASC-1 - $230

Total: $2130 CAD ($2450 with taxes)

Later, I would/could buy another center channel for the back, plus a subwoofer to complete the 6.1:

Rear center: Athena ASC-1 - $230
Sub: Athena AS-P400 - $500

Total: $2860 CAD ($3289 with taxes)

I have a 2500$ budget limit for my initial purchase. I really really can't go over that.

ask yourself this question.

"do i like the way the speakers sound?"

that's really important, because if you like the speakers, then that is all that matters. period.

but i will say this. be sure to audition as many speakers as you can...in all price ranges. this will give you some idea of what other speakers sound like and you'll have something to gauge the athena's against.

regarding the receiver: at that price point, i would also check out denon, yamaha and onkyo. personally, i'd pick one of those before the kenwood.
