Actually we're pregnant so we dont need any help in that specific arena, but we are hoping to hasten the labor. My wife is due on Nov 3rd, but she has been ready since Oct 3rd. We were scheduled to be induced tomorrow AM, but the doctor's office called to cancel earlier this afternoon. We might get a reschedule, but in the mean time, Does anyone know of any 'old wife's tails' on how to encourage the little one along?

Serious and not so serious suggestions are welcome, but please keep it toned down enough to keep this thread going until we have a safe & healthy baby on its way.

    Thanks in advance.

Any attemps to hasten labor can be dangerous for the mother and the Baby. Follow the doctors orders and don't take and chances.

    Congratulations.

Bill, yes we're aware. Thanks and I appreciate your kind and thoughtful response. I agree with your point 100%, but I thought maybe we could have some fun with this since we are ready now!!!

Even still, I am still awaiting further HTF responses.

#1 was 2 weeks late...the morning we would be induced, the baby decided to come on her own. #2 was two weeks early, in not so dramatic fashion, my wife's water broke and we took the 3minute drive to the hospital. #3, well we we're thinking a week or two early without any 'help'.

    Family suggestions are :
    go for a long walk
take a ride in the car on a lightly bumpy road
    eat spicy food
    even to have intercourse ???

alright folks now it's your turn, at least one of you has had or known someone in this scenario, right?

She can try rubbing/squeezing her nipples. But labour is known to kick in when you're really relaxed, that's why most women go into labour in the evenings.

On a serious note, trust that nature will bring your baby when the time is right...not sooner and not later. I would caution against inducing - which is a medical intervention - but it sounds like you guys are not aiming for a natural child birth to begin with.

All the best and I wish you a successful birth.

Inducing labor? Fun? I have no expertise in this field, but I would think waiting until it naturally comes along would be the best way in most, if not all, circumstances.

The two best ways have already been mentioned:

    1) Lots of walking
    2) Lots of intercourse (the semen softens the cervix and helps ripen it).

I heard horse back riding helps.

Try drinking motor oil? Stick with synthetic as it's better for you.

In seriousness, ask your doctor.. but intercourse without a condom will help.. assist in the process. This is fairly well documented; it's in part because of the content of the fluids involved which help "urge" the membrane to open [IMG]

You might ask your doctor, though.. if you use a midwife, and you get "close to time" before they ever induce they will suggest you try this method. Never do anything overly stressful on the body, and always play safe!

You're not the only one, I thought this was going to be a joke thread and asking for "donations".[IMG]

btw, good luck with the birthing may your child be blessed with intelligence, have the patience of a saint, wield godlike powers, and not be affected by green meteor rocks...[IMG]

have her mow the lawn, wash the car and paint the trim on your house (laytex paint only) then have her shower up and you can do your part [IMG] [IMG]

Our midwife encouraged intercourse to help everything along.

My son was 10 days late and my wife was ready to do anything to get that kid out. At 9lb 1oz He took over 3-1/2 hours of hard pushing to get out. As it was they had to call in the doctor to use the suction cup on his head to help him out. (freaked me out!)

Im all for letting nature work, tough Im not the one that has to carry that baby around inside me.

No. I was wondering if Richard (or my wife, for that matter) would be pissed if it looked like me.[IMG]

Both my kids were induced. In fact, the doc here tells me about 70% of deliveries here in town are. I was surprised it was so high.

    Agreed with Scott

Go out for some walks with her, keep them short or at least near to transportation. This worked with our first child 24 years ago, the next two had been 8 & 12 weeks early.

    Good luck.

I'm having trouble with this thought. If you are with a woman and she is pregnant already why would you even bother with the condom? Seems kind of pointless.
