Actress Wendie Jo Sperber has died of cancer at home in Los Angeles. She was 46.

She starred in "Bosom Buddies" with Tom Hanks and was in the "Back to the Future" movies with Michael J. Fox.

Sperber founded the "we-Spark" cancer support center.

"The Insider" reports the death and quotes Hanks as saying, "She met the challenges of her illness with love, cheer, joy, altruism through we-SPARK, and an unstoppable supply of goodness we are going to miss her as surely as we are all better for knowing her."

She is survived by her parents and a son and daughter.

She was one of those great supporting players that made me laugh, especially on Bosom Buddies.

    This sucks, RIP Wendie.

I also remember her as Tom Hanks' sister-in-law in Bachelor Party. A funny lady gone way too young. RIP.

She was good in everything. Terrific in Bosum Buddies, also in I want to Hold your Hand also as well as Corvette Summer.
    She always made me laugh.

I had no idea she was sick. She was fantastic in everything I ever saw her in from guest spots in Designing Women to Bosom Buddies and Back to the Future.

I also remember her in a "Married...With Children" episode, in which Al wanted the only thing in his life that held any value- a high school football that he gave to her years before. He got it back, only after she threw it out her apartment window and he jumped out after it.

Sad, sad news. WJS was always a bright spot in the roles she had. I was always looking forward to seeing her in the films and TV episodes and was plenty surprised to find her in an episode of Will And Grace a few years back. I hadn't seen her in such a while that it was plain refreshing.

At least she's not in pain anymore. [IMG]

Variety is reporting that she was only 43. That is far too young.

Well, no matter her age, it is far too young, but I doubt 43 is correct. She was in films in 1978 and 1979, and if she was 43 in 2005, that would have made her 16 in 1978. She appears to be older in I Wanna Hold Your Hand and 1941.

I've also read that she was 47, which seems more accurate.

Her scenes were really funny in one of my favorite comedies of all time: USED CARS.
