Standard disclaimer: All prices are taken from the websites of each chain, the week of the release (so as to catch any week-of-release sale prices). All prices are subject to change by each chain. Prices and inventory in-store may or may not match the website price. If a price is marked "$_N/A_" in the grid, it means that this title is not shown as available on that chain's website...but it COULD still be in-stores!

* [rant]KEEP AN EYE ON THOSE HARRY POTTER AND THE SORCERER'S STONE DVD'S THIS WEEK! THEY ARE AVAILABLE AS SEPARATE-SKU WIDESCREEN AND FULLSCREEN RELEASES! LOOK FOR OAR![/rant]
* HTFer Ken Cline brought to our attention the best deal I've seen yet on Harry Potter. [rant]CompUSA has it for $9.97, plus a free mousemat![/rant] Here is a link to an online copy of their ad (PDF format). And here is what Ken is talking about (the blurriness is due to it being a screen-capture of the blown-up PDF ad):

Basically, since the mousemat is a $10 value, it's like getting the DVDs free when you buy the mousemat! Awesome loss leader!!
* Best Buy will give you $2 off the combined purchase of any 2 "Family or Disney DVD movies", or $5 off if you buy 3 of the same.
* Best Buy also is giving away any DVD regularly priced $19.99 or less with the purchase of a PlayStation 2 (which also plays DVDs). The PS2 (along with the X-Box) has just been permanently marked down to $199.99 everyday price.
* I *GREATLY* advocate everyone to buy Dark Shadows. I have been watching this set for a pending review for TVShowsOnDVD.com and after 2 of the 4 discs I have been smashed by the greatness of this series. I've never seen this before, and if you haven't don't let that stop you! Track it down and own it. Very creepy, despite the cheesiness and perhaps enhanced by the scratched-up original black-and-white elements. I'm enjoying this more than TNG Season 2! Very worthwhile. :emoji_thumbsup: I'll try to have the review written up today, despite the holiday.
* I may have to pick up Slackers just because "That '70's Show" star Laura Prepon is in it.
htf_images_smilies_yum.gif

* Target is doing Harry Potter for just $15.99, plus you can save $3 on Coke product 12-packs and/or save $1 on Harry Potter action figures during the same purchase. See stores for details.
* K-Mart has Harry Potter for $19.95, and each of the three Rambo SEs are being sold separately for $14.95 each.
* Wal-Mart also seems to have Harry Potter for $19.99; no word of any incentives or additional savings, but those guys seem to decide these things at the last minute.

Wow, Dave, I knew TNG Season 2 wasn't your favorite, but I hardly expected such a ringing endorsement for Barnabas & the gang at Collinwood! :D
About the CompUSA price for HP, does anyone know what the "instant savings" of $10 is? Ads like that always put the cynic in me on alert. (But then again, when is the cynic in me NOT "on alert"?)
Thanx too for listing the Holmes boxed set... I'll likely be getting it from Amazon.

I listed the Holmes box set just for you, Randy! ;)
As far as asking what the $10 "instant savings" will be, I don't see how CompUSA can do anything but cash, since their ad SHOWS a net $9.97 price! It seems pretty clear to me that for $9.97 plus tax, I should be able to walk out of there with a widescreen Harry Potter 2-DVD set and a Harry Potter mousemat. Assuming we get there while quantities last on all of the above.
Stephie and I will probably grab lunch as early as possible on Tuesday at Fazolies, since they're in the same parking lot. Wanna come? :D
Edit: P.S. - I promise to like Season 3 a lot more!

Randy, from my experience at CompUSA, all of the "instant savings" listed in their ad's are a 'cash-money' instant discount. Crap, even though I was the first person at my store to reserve a copy of Harry Potter, I'm gonna have to pick one up at CompUSA for that price. Bummer I have to work at 8am on Tuesay, I'll have to get one of my friends to pick it up for me before they run out.

Circuit City is slashing prices on all of their $13.99 (and lower) CDs to $9.99. Limit is 20 CDs, and 2 of any one title.

What's with the boldface, border, arrow, and red dot around the full-screen SKU in the HP CompUSA advertisement? I tried blowing up the original .pdf but it was still too blurry to see what they're trying to say.

David,

I realize I may be the only person in all the HTF buying it, but Sorry, Wrong Number is coming on Tuesday. Any idea about prices for this? (assuming any b&m's even carry it)

At $44 I'll have to be convinced by that review of Dark Shadows! But I'll look for it.

Otherwise just Traffic CC for me, and some indecision about another US copy of Harry Potter.

I know this is a long shot but there is a DVD by the band Incubus coming out on Tuesday and it is called The Morning View Sessions. I know that the last time they had a disc come out BB had it in their flyer, anyone know if it is in one of the B and M flyers?

Kevin

Oh and David. I got Slackers for review last week and Laura Prepon is only in it for about ten total minutes but she plays a sex starved co ed..woo hoo.

After raving about finding The Full Monty marked down early to $9.99 last week, I am saddened to discover that Circuit City has it for $8.99 this week. ;)
Other $8.99 discs include Great Expectations (1998), Rising Sun, and six or seven others I wouldn't even consider. :D

It looks like that instant $10 savings for Harry Potter at Comp USA is ONLY for the Full Screen version. That little red dot next to the full screen SKU# I believe is their symbol of a little dollar with the instant discount amount printed on it. So....the widescreen version will probably be the full $19.95 price.
If this is true...that is sooooooooooo frustrating. These DVDs cost the same to make. Why not give the discount on both SKU#'s?

Notice it says "Widescreen Version ###### / Full Frame ######
The slash indicates it's for both.
Even if it isn't, I bet I'll still get CC to match on the widescreen :)

Fry's has HPatSS for $14.99 because the sales end Tuesday it's Tuesday only, limit one per.

Here's my question and it's always confused me... Much like getting the Usual Suspects from BB with a $10 gift card what is the best way? I could sell my HP that I got from BB with the $10 cert. If I can get what I bought it for I made $10. Then I could go to fry's and buy it for $14.99. Then I'd basically get the disc for $4.99+tax. Anyone see a better way?

Doesn't Best Buy beat competitor's prices by 10%? If you show them the ad from CompUSA for the Harry Potter DVD, couldn't you get it for $9.00?

Ever, actually. I concentrate on the new releases each week, rather than just hitting everything on sale. But thank you, and everyone else who chips in with mentions of other bargains. We don't all get things the first week they are available, after all. But I can't do everything myself, either! :D
