Standard disclaimer: All prices are taken from the websites of each chain, the week of the release (so as to catch any week-of-release sale prices). All prices are subject to change by each chain. Prices and inventory in-store may or may not match the website price. If a price is marked "$_N/A_" in the grid, it means that this title is not shown as available on that chain's website...but it COULD still be in-stores!

* Best Buy's weekly ad has the release for Disney's Snow Dogs on the front page. Don't forget that this disc is NOT AVAILABLE in it's ORIGINAL THEATRICAL PRESENTATION; it is the chopped-for-television version and I do not recommend it's purchase. The same goes for Columbia's Glenn Ford/Jack Lemmon film Cowboy, also released to DVD this week: it's been chopped, too. I'll personally wait - forever if necessary - for the Theater Version of these films. For this reason, neither title is included in the Roundup.
* Best Buy is showing an "Instant $5 off when you buy The Others and Snow Dogs together". Again, I do not recommend buying Snow Dogs. However, the last 3 times BB made this type of combo-savings offer, the primary title got the discount at the register whether or not the secondary title was purchased. So there's a chance that this is going to happen again. If so, then you'll be able to get The Others by itself for a super-low $12.99!! I personally will try this...$17.99 is a great price for all the wonderful things I've heard about that film (The Others) anyway. If I can save an additional $5, that would be outstanding! :)
* Best Buy has 10% instant savings on all DVD Players. Including a JVC Progressive Scan model that is just $179.99 before the discount! Whoa!! Also, they have a Sony SACD player on sale for $329.99, plus the 10% discount, plus you get (by mail) these five DVD titles at no extra cost: 6th Day, Crouching Tiger/Hidden Dragon, Random Hearts, Vertical Limit, Fools Rush In. For those of you who just want an extra player for the bedroom at very little cost, you can choose the one I picked up last Christmas...at 10% off the $99.99 price I got during the holidays: Mintek 2110 DVD Player with component connections, lighted panel, controls on full-size unit AND on remote, zoom, A/B repeat looping, and it even does Karaoke! And, to make use of the last feature, BB is giving away a free microphone with this unit. For anyone needing a cheap DVD player, I highly recommend the Mintek, especially for this deal. Hmmm...Maybe I need a spare in the computer room, so I can spin discs while I'm doing the Roundup... :D
* In the ultimate free-goodie giveaway gimmick, BB is also giving away a free "recliner" when you buy any projection TV! It's not quite a La-Z-Boy, though, so eyeball it before you get excited. I'm not...
* This isn't QUITE DVD-related, but maybe it is since the thing can spin discs if you get the add-on device: For those of you who held off getting an X-Box game machine because the darn control pads are too big for the kiddies, but aware that Microsoft is officially releasing their new smaller control pads this week. I'm not a kiddie, but I've got small hands, so this is of interest to me! ;)
* Target's weekly ad shows Corky Romano at $17.99, and advertises that you will get a "LOW PRICE" on the following titles: The Others, From Hell, Oliver & Company.
* K-Mart's ad is showing $19.95 each for The Others, Oliver & Company, and Corky Romano, and $22.95 for From Hell.
The latest markdowns according to VideoTropics web site (DVD Title/Old SRP/New SRP):

Thanks, Dave. I wasn't aware Atlantic City was being released this week. Any goodies on the disc?

Just the theatrical trailer, plus what's under the lemons! :D :b
P.S. - I'm glad I'm not the only one intersted in this film, considering it was nominated for 5 Oscars! Awesome flick; one of my first discoveries after my family got cable TV back in the day.

If somebody finds a better price on OLIVER & COMPANY please post details. I'd like to know what Target's "LOW PRICE" is. $17.99 or less would be nice.

Glenn, I meant to mention it, but I suspect that Costco will end up being the best price on that title. All their Disney stuff has been ultra-cheap lately, and not all of it mentioned on their website. I will be checking Costco before I purchase O&C anywhere else. If you are a member, I advise you to do the same! Of course, I will post any findings here ASAP.

Well, unfortunately there is only one Costco in the entire greater Pittsburgh area, in Cranberry Township north of the city. I'm east of the city, a good 50 minutes away from it at best. So it isn't practical for me to shop at Costco right now. Although my brother lives very close to there, so maybe I can occasionally stop in when visiting him -- probably not worth a membership though. I'm hoping they put one out my way someday.

Since DVD players will be 10% off, can I use my 10% off coupon IN ADDITION to the sale, getting 20% off total? :D

Dave, you've done it again!
And the best part is, this week, I can just save up my money for Memento LE next week. ;)

Does Best Buy pricematch with Circuit City? I would like to know that so that when I go to best buy I can get The Others for the same price as CC ($16.99) and From Hell for the same price ast CC ($17.99).

Yes, both stores price match. I believe you'll have to have an ad showing the price at CC to get BB to match it, though.

The problem with the pricematching thing is that the CC ad is very UNLIKELY to name the price. They are more likely to have a wording of "Hot Price" or "Low Price" or something vague like that.

Of course, BB can CALL CC to verify the prices.

Just to clarify: The 10% off DVD players at BB is only for models priced $179.00 and up - it also excludes Sony - this according to the BB Web site.

You are correct that this is what the website says...so I checked the weekly ad again.
It states that the discount is on players $179.99 and up. So you're right, and that means there's no discount on the Mintek I mentioned in the Roundup. :frowning:
However, there is nothing at all about excluding Sony products. That limitation must be strictly on the website, and doesn't apply to in-store purchases. In fact, the ad shows that Sony SACD player I mentioned in the Roundup, and specifies that the $329.99 price is "before savings".

The even better part about that SACD player is that, unmentioned in the Best Buy ad, is the fact that there is an $80 instant rebate in effect until the end of May. That means $249.99...which beats the heck out of the 10 percent (I doubt you'd get both). Anyway, this makes the 650 the same price as the 600, so I went for it. :)

FYI: there are reports that Jude is "non-widescreen & single layer". Sounds bad. I can't verify either way right now.

Be careful!

DVD Empire & Digital Eyes have Jude listed as TBA, Amazon has it as Ships in 24 hours but doesn't say if it's widescreen, Best Buy dot com has this in the description: Bonus Content:

Featurette Cast & crew filmographies Theatrical trailer Widescreen English Dolby surround English closed captioned - so the word Widescreen is in there (EDIT: Just noticed that it also says Aspect Ratio of 2.35:1), but they're not 100% reliable. DVD Express has it as "unreleased."

I'm going to Best Buy this afternoon and I'll try to get the straight scoop if it's there.

Just picked up "The Others" and "From Hell" (2-Disc Editions) at Wal-Mart for $16.88. According to the manager and the A/V clerk, they price match all advertised products, nation wide, including Target, K-Mart, Circuit City and Best Buy... shoot, I didn't even need to show them the ad.
Cheers...;)
