Repairs complete, Omega SUPREME!

[c] [/c]

Standard disclaimer: All prices are taken from the websites of each chain, or from their printed advertisements, the Sunday of the week of release (so as to catch any week-of-release sale prices). All prices are subject to change by each chain. Prices and inventory in-store may or may not match the website price. If a price is marked "$_N/A_" in the grid, it means that this title is not shown as available on that chain's website or perhaps in their ads...but it COULD still be in-stores!

$_"LP" means the advertisement says "Low Price", and $_"HP" means the advertisement says "Hot Price". Use of either of these in the Roundup grid indicates that I could not locate a definate price for the item, and the ad is all I have to go on. Retailers use these phrases in advertisements so that they do not violate MAP (Minimum Advertised Price) agreements with the studios. Doing so can cost them thousands or even millions of dollars in co-op advertising funds.

I only include the titles I feel like including. In fact, the titles are pretty much the ones I'm personally interested in, with few exceptions. I don't get paid for this, and I don't have time to devote to doing every DVD. I have a lovely wife and a five-year-old son I'd rather spend time with. Please don't complain. If there is a title not included in the Roundup that you want to see, just look it up yourself, and be nice enough to post and share the results with everyone...like I do!

Note that Circuit City does not guarantee their sale prices in Hawaii.

* Non-OAR discs are, as usual, entirely left off the Roundup. Example: Return to Snowy River.

* DON'T FORGET THAT MANY OF THESE CATALOG TITLE RELEASES WILL NOT BE IN STORES ON TUESDAY...THEY'LL BE SLOW-SHIPPED IN TO SAVE ON SHIPPING CHARGES! EXPECT THEM NO SOONER THAN THE WEEKEND IN MANY STORES.

* Target's "Low Price" on Darkness Falls is almost certainly going to be $15.99, so try there first.

* Circuit City will sell you Standing in the Shadows of Motown for $13.99 PLUS give you a free 5 track CD Sampler PLUS you can get a Temptations DVD for $4.99 that has a $4.99 mail in rebate (making it free) PLUS you can save $3 instantly on the CD sountrack. Whoa!

* Best Buy, on the other hand, will give you the free Temptations DVD in-store instantly, no need to mail off...just buy the Standing in the Shadows of Motown DVD for $15.99. However, the Circuit City thing has to be the better deal, with the $2 lower price, the free sampler and the savings on the soundtrack in exchange for the minor inconvenience of using a stamp to get the Temptation DVD's price refunded.

* K-Mart wants to play, too: they have a deal where you can buy both the DVD ($15.95) and soundtrack CD ($14.99) of Standing in the Shadows of Motown at the same time, and they will deduct $5 from the total.

* Don't forget that the Standing in the Shadows of Motown DVD comes with a neat supplement: The Hire "Season 2": Hostage, Ticker, & Beat The Devil. It's on Disc 1 of this 2-disc item. A strange supplement, but better than begging at BMW dealerships or waiting to get it in the mail. I hope it's not DVD-ROM or something dumb like that.

* Is there anyone left who reads this that doesn't already have a copy of The Matrix? Well, if you need one, snag it this week (on sale most places for $12.99-ish, give or take a dollar) to get a free ticket to The Matrix Reloaded, in theaters on May 15th.

* I'm disappointed that none of the B&M stores seem to be carrying the Classic Musicals Collection: The Cole Porter Collection. Besides containing the five separate musicals in one convenient box set (and at a nicer price), it has a bonus item in it: The Great American Songbook, a DVD with a $25 separate value that is a new 3-hour documentary covering information about American music from 1860-1960 (a short version of this recently was shown on PBS). A vintage MGM short is even thrown in, though I forget which one. I hope this box set shows up at Costco as a surprise, or else I'll just have to order it online. If you spot this box set anywhere, please let me know:

I belive in Ron's review of Standing in the Shadows of Motown he said the BMW Films were in fact DVD-ROM.

Thanks for the updates!

As usual, great work...

I particularly appreciate knowing all the special deals on Standing in the Shadows of Motown... who is pimping this so hard to the B&M buyers that we get such great deals?

Bowling for Columbine was supposed to be released this week. Now DVDPriceSearch has it listed as TBA. Wonder what happened to it?

As noted in this thread, Disney's RETURN TO SNOWY RIVER supposedly is released this week, but strangely some retailers like DVDempire.com and DVDPlanet.com don't seem to list it. Any B&M's advertising it?

does anyone have any faith that Speed Racer is gonna be in any of the B&M's on Tuesday? I can't count the number of catalog titles that haven't been available in any of my local BB or CC stores in the last few months.

Re: The Cole Porter box set, I already have that on order from Amazon, but I didn't know about the bonus disc. Sounds great -- but David, how do you know that? Doesn't seem to show in the product description at Amazon.

Also the indie critical smash Real Women Have Curves is being released this week, and Best Buy will have it on sale for $16.99.

Another indie hit The Crime of Padre Amaro is also coming out -- should be $18.99 at Costco.

I did not see any deals on another key release this week: The Believer.

Thanks, as always, Dave. The roundup is what I most look forward to online every Sunday. I wasn't planning on getting Speed Racer, but after reading Ron's review and seeing BB's price, I don't think I'll be able to pass it up. The only other title I'm really interested in this week is High Society. The local BB's have been awful about getting in catalog titles lately, but I'm hoping this is an exception. Amusingly, they've all expanded their DVD sections, reducing their VHS selection to less than half of one side of a rack, but it seems this is mostly so they can fit an additional 500 copies of whatever the hot new releases are.

transformers for sure......damn these prices are expensive anyone cheaper?
Well, both S1 P1 and S1 P2 have an SRP of $59.95...but for P1 the prices were lower than P2 at Best Buy and Circuit City:

[c]
__________TITLE___________BestBuy_CrcCity_CostCo_
Transformers - S2P1 (Box)_$42.99__$39.99__$34.99
Transformers - S2P2 (Box)_$49.99__$49.99__$_N/A_
[/c]

So I guess the economy sucking means they want to try to get more for the S1 P2 set.

I expect that Costco will once again have the cheapest price...when I posted the Roundup on the Sunday before the S2 P1 release, there was an N/A in the Costco column as well. That info came on Wednesday...after I'd bought my copy! :frowning:

This time, I'll check Costco first! :D :emoji_thumbsup:

Not only do I not have Matrix, I've never even seen it!

David, I look forward to the sales papers every Saturday, but even more so to your roundup every Sunday. Be aware that for every compliment you receive here, there are probably 50 more that remain unsaid.
