Standard disclaimer: All prices are taken from the websites of each chain, the week of the release (so as to catch any week-of-release sale prices). All prices are subject to change by each chain. Prices and inventory in-store may or may not match the website price. If a price is marked "$_N/A_" in the grid, it means that this title is not shown as available on that chain's website...but it COULD still be in-stores!
Without further ado, here is the latest grid:

    * Yes, I am an OAR supporter. So, I am not EVEN going to pretend to want to list any of the Fox Pan-and-Scan releases this week. I was wrong; these are OAR releases of the "Un-Special" Editions...which I won't bother to grid anyway; the P&S editions are in May as I'm reminded of below. And I'll hold off mentioning A.I's price at Costco, since they will only have the P&S version in-stores anyway (besides, Circuit City beats them hands down I was wrong again! CC's WS version is a whopping $24.99!! [IMG] 2-tier pricing? [IMG] New update! CC has relented and now shows both versions at the same $17.99 price!). I'm giving Sam's Club the benefit of the doubt, since they do on occassion stock the WS versions in-store (I'm also giving them another benefit in continuing to list them; noone responded to my suggestion last week that I stop including them...feedback, please?).
    * Target has The One and The Last Castle for $19.99 each. They also show A.I. as "Low Price...also available in Widescreen". [IMG] They mention the Thomas the Tank Engine: Best of James disc for $14.99, and they probably have Scooby-Doo: The Reluctant Werewolf on DVD, but they only mention the VHS! [IMG]²
    * K-Mart goes for The One and The Last Castle for $19.95 each, A.I. for $22.95 (no mention of which AR it is, and it's cheaper elsewhere anyway), Reluctant Werewolf for $14.95, and newly marked-down items Field of Dreams and Backdraft for just $14.95 each. Suprisingly there's no mention of the Thomas the Tank Engine DVD's that are newly out this week; instead the ad prominently displays Thomas VHS tapes bundled with toy trains...
The latest markdowns according to VideoTropics web site (DVD Title/Old SRP/New SRP):
    -------------------------
    • Abyss, The (Widescreen / Movie Only) $19.98 $19.98
    • Anna and the King $26.98 $19.98
    • Backdraft $24.98 $19.98
    • Buddy $24.95 $19.95
    • Day of the Jackal $24.98 $14.98
    • Dude, Where's My Car $26.98 $19.98
    • Ed-TV $34.98 $19.98
    • Field of Dreams $34.98 $19.98
    • Forces of Nature $29.99 $19.98
    • Freddy Got Fingered $24.98 $19.98
    • Getaway, The $24.98 $14.98
    • Haunting, The $24.99 $19.98
    • Havana $26.98 $19.98
    • Jerk, The $24.98 $19.98
    • Kingdom Come (Special Edition) $29.98 $19.98
    • Lake Placid $22.98 $19.98
    • Life $24.98 $19.98
    • Man on the Moon $24.98 $19.98
    • Meltdown $29.95 $19.95
    • Planet of the Apes (2001) $29.98 $19.98
    • Secret of My Success $24.98 $14.98
    • Sudden Death $24.98 $14.98
    • Tokyo Raiders $24.95 $19.95
    • Who's Harry Crumb? $19.95 $14.95
Yep, that's EXACTLY the way The Abyss is listed at VideoTropics. Big savings, eh? [IMG] See y'all next week! I'm outa here...

    David,
My Sunday newspaper did not include the Circuit City advert. Did the advert explicitly list the widescreen version of A.I. for $17.99?
The reason I ask is that circuitcity.com lists 2 separate prices for A.I. - $17.99 for the p&s version, $24.99 for the widescreen version.
I'd be interested in seeing if this is an error on the website. Or worse, if Circuit City is introducing two-tier pricing - one for p&s and another, higher price for widescreen.

I was very surprised to see Say Anything for $12.99 at Best Buy. I gambled price would be $14.99, so I pre-ordered from DVD Empire for $13.99.

Best Buy has had a recent history of either not carrying new releases of older movies or not discounting very much. It is nice to know someone at BB recognizes Say Anything as a significant movie that warrants a good sale price.

Marty, it looks like Best Buy's everyday price on Say Anything... will be $14.99, since I picked it up there a few days ago priced as marked. [IMG]
I'll gladly eat the $2.00 in exchange for getting the disc early.
David, regarding Sam's, I vote that you leave them in, if only for the reason that stock varies from store to store, and they may indeed have more new releases than the Web sites indicate. It may, of course, only be of benefit to those of us who have memberships, since I don't think the savings justify the cost of a membership unless you either buy a ton of discs or wait a few weeks/months to pick up new releases; by that time, prices at the other B&Ms have gone back up, but prices at Sam's will have likely stayed the same.

I stand corrected on the 1-disc Fox releases; my apologies for jumping the gun. I'll save up even more righteous indignation for May! [IMG]
Speaking of which, I definately missed the price difference on Circuit City's A.I.. It never occurred to me that this would happen. I'm correcting the grid now. For shame...
    Letter campaign, anyone? [IMG]

George, I didn't think interest would be high in those! [IMG]
These are all $19.99 at Best Buy:
    • Ghost Breakers
    • Paleface
    • Road to Moracco
    • Road to Singapore
    • Road to Utopia
    • Road to Zanzibar
...and the box set of the last four (the Road Series 4-Pack)is $79.99 (3¢ more for the box!).
At Pan&Scan City, I mean Divx City, I mean...oh, shoot, they've got 'em for $17.99 each and $69.99 for the box set.
    And I hope they choke!
Personally, I recommend you take your business on-line for these, since Amazon has them for $14.98 each, and an amazingly mere $52.48 for the box! And I'm sure there's cheaper than Amazon out there on-line, but this beats the brick and mortars for sure!
While it wouldn't surprise me to see these at one or both of the club stores later on, they sure don't have them listed at their web sites right now.

My BB had the $12.99 sale sign under a big display of the "Cast Away" 2-disc special editions, so when it rang up at regular price I pointed out the discrepancy and they gave me the 2-disc version for the sale price. It wasn't until I got home tonight and read this thread that I was aware that it was supposed to be a different version. Ooops! I feel sort of guilty now, but also feel they could have made this distinction more apparent in-store.

Also, this same BB had about a dozen copies of "ED: Book of the Dead" out for sale late last week, but they're all gone today. Can't decide if they sold out or if they were pulled because they were out early. I tend to think they were pulled.

I appreciate the Sam's Club info. Sam's is right on my way to Best Buy, so I often stop at both.

Perhaps we just need a source who frequents a B&M Sam's Club to provide some input on selection and prices, rather than depending on their website? I'd volunteer, but unfortunately my nearest Sam's Club is over 100 miles away so I don't get there too often.

Thanks again, David. Woohoo! This is the first week in a while that I've been excited over some releases! AI, Say Anything and Replacement Killers...and ain't the stars aligned, it looks like BB is the place to be for these three titles.

Man, the plastic is starting to melt...
